Is it Jell-o or is it not Jell-o? Is the main essential ingredient of Jell-o gelatin? If the essential ingredient of Jell-o is gelatin, then this stuff must a substantial amount of gelatin. No?

Oh, maybe "Jell-o" is a brand of gelatin desert, and also a brand of pudding desert that doesn't contain gelatin?

i would be a her.

i actually was not sure of what you wanted. i am completely aware of what jello-gelatin is and what jello- pudding is. jello is the term used when you want gelatin (the rubbery stuff)and pudding (the cream stuff) is the term used when you want pudding. and yes i know gelatin is a nasty funk by-product from animals. and no pudding is not always vegan even when in the box, but it does not generally have gelatin.

Oneness, you may be aware of what jello-gelatin is, and what jello-pudding is. But I'd just have to take your word for it.

========================

jello is the term used when you want gelatin (the rubbery stuff)and pudding (the cream stuff) is the term used when you want pudding.

=============

This explanation of the distinction between the terms "jello" and "pudding" is not sufficient to explain the distinction between these 2 items, if there is one, to someone who is not already aware of the distinction, if there is one. If I were to trust your claim that you are aware of certain distinctions, then I would have to conclude that you have repeatedly failed to communicate them.

"Jello is the term used when you want gelatin."

Is it? I never want gelatin. I use the term Jell-o -- but not when I want gelatin. And if I want to communicate something about gelatin, I'm not likely to use the term jell-o.

Jeez! - is this the compost bin??

Oneness refers to Gelatin as Jello (the name of a company that makes Gelatin).

(and - by the way - so do I and about a zillion kids)

This isn't something new - tissue is called "kleenex" all the time.

(I think I'm suffering from PMS or something because I'm just friggin' irritable the last couple of days - sorry)

I am not sure if it is vegan or not, but it does contain dangerous additives such as BHT and BHA.

It would not set if you mixed it with soy or rice milk, because they have no casien in them. I remember experimenting with this when I was about 8 years old although I just read the other day why it wouldn't set.

you can very easily make your own vegan chocolate "instant pudding" mix. just combine soymilk, maple syrup, cocoa powder, corn starch (or another thickener like arrowroot or tapioca starch), and a dash of salt and cook over medium heat until it gets thick.

you can also make your own vegan fruit jell-o gelatin-type dessert using agar and real fruit juice. i've never done it, but i keep meaning to try it.

This is too funny. I think that Soilman is showing sarcasm toward the content of some of the threads. You have to admit, some of them are ridiculous...funny though I must admit.

Edited to add...I believe he was asking a legit question at first but then decided he would have a little fun.

Soilman- What's your point? Are you asking a real question, or do you just want to criticize someone's response?

===============

I'm not asking a real question (good thing, too); I wanted to criticize people's responses. That was the whole purpose of starting this thread. I tried to make that clear in my intitial message, where I didn't say "someone please help me understand what Jell-o cook &

Serve Pudding and Pie Filling is," rather, I said "Quiz: What is this stuff? Is it "Jell-o"? Does it contain gelatin?"

It's a quiz. I quiz people so i can evaluate their responses, tell people whether their responses are correct or incorrect, and in general evaluate and criticise their responses. To help them learn how to express themselves better, not to help me learn about Jell-o pudding & pie Filling. I already know what Jell-o Pudding and Pie Filling is. See attachment.
