Has anyone ever used one or know where to buy one? They are supposed to help make raw vegetables more digestable. You slice, grate or chop your veggies then layer them with small amounts of unrefined sea salt then press them in the salad press. It is supposed to create lactic acid fermentation, which improves digestion, increases absorption of nutrients, and feeds beneficial bacteria that live in your intestines.

You can accomplish the same thing with a saucepan and a plate. Put the veggies and salt in the pan, put the plate on top,put a weight on the plate, then cover the whole thing with a dishtowel.

This would also work for you:

http://www.greenlivingoasis.com/picklemaker.html

Thanks nigel, I was thinking of pulling out an old gallon crock and trying it with the weighted plate. Just like we used to make sauerkraut.
