Does anyone else here like jrock? I'll start talking about some of my favorite bands and it seems that no one has the slightest idea what I'm talking about.

*fans self*

I enjoy the occasional tracks from Glay, L'arc en Ciel, and X Japan.

I also have some interesting Shonen Knife tracks, including a cover of "Daydream Believer" and the "Hokey Pokey" song. XD

ETA: I saw some footage of Gackt and Ayumi singing "Silent Night" on a Japanese Christmas Special. ^________^

I saw a really cool Japanese punk band a few years ago called Hellchild. I'm not too familiar with any other Japanese bands.

So I was not talking to myself, after all!

Although I don't like much of Gackt's music, I must admit that, he, well... does look very nice. *trying to think of a way to put it*

Some of my favorites are Malice Mizer, Deadman, Merry, Plastic Tree, hide and Miyavi. And, if you couldn't tell from my avatar, Közi from Eve of Destiny.

For Japanese music in mind etc, I thought to add interest from a past thread, so here is a VB thread for "foreign music" with my out-take of "vegankat" (below) showing her japanese music interest quoted here and found at the link as shown here...

http://veggieboards.com/boards/showt...ighlight=japan

Quote:

Here is an exhaustive list of Jpop artists. I'd recommend downloading a few songs by an artist before buying a CD... sometimes the music can be weird. ^_^;;; My favorite songs at the moment are "Colors" by Utada Hikaru and "ever free" by Hamasaki Ayumi. If you're into techno at all, there are a lot of really good remixes of Ayumi's songs.

For fun, this is a picture I drew of Hamasaki Ayumi. ^_^;;;; It's the only thing I've ever drawn that looks somewhat like what it should look like.

How cool, I will simply say what simply appears.... I see what appears a good straight forward use of very slight *gradient light* tones-- (in the skin especially) with minimum contour lines and shading(?) etc ...Anyhow, looks like a real person to me so you did well. ...The hair of course must have been quite tuff to do as always is the case on any drawing...

I see just a nice blend of simple placid tones basically .. What type of colour pencils did you use to create it VeganKat??

I used Prismacolor pencils for that. They are godlike in their smoothness and they come in millions of colors.

Oh, and thanks!

I could go completely AWOL and wacko on this MEO as alas I just realized in doing a long (offline draft) analysis of what makes japanese music herald the most, in retaining its cultural element

and yet reaching out to the masses world wide at the same time.

.................................................. .................................................. .....................(as is inevitable with all marketing worldwide) .....SO I guess the world market (concerning japan) would ultimately do the same and have to please both admirers outside AND in japan itself... [of both japanese and non-japanese peoples around the world]... but aside from whomever is the listener/observer, I would first of all like to establish "possible grey areas" so that I can assess where the most "inherently japanese material" is coming from exactly and where its to be found -- (obviously at the heart of japanese society) ...BUT wherein also that which otherly may not be(?) so uniquely japanese!?!?)...

So now for my main questions about that!! ->>>

Do ANY of japanese music exports contain music inherent to the nature and way of japanese culture or not???... and if so, is this being distributed on a broader scale as well as for Japans own cultural integrity and consumption?? I need to ask, in getting to know as much Complete WHEREWITHALL of japanese music contributors/artists worldwide..as possible to do (or as much as

my time and patience will allow, by virtue of enthusiasm!!) ....

...I'm interested in music sources BOTH culturally INHERENT or otherwise, so that we can know WHAT is being distributed and made available on a broader spectrum and get a fuller picture of the overall market [for the purpose of obtaining our desired particular "brand" or general broadsweep of music that we seek] of which hopefully the japanese export out for us ALL to enjoy...

...............................**as in my question: which of their OWN CULTURALLY HOMEGROWN music palletes/tastes are exported and made accessible/available universally**...including niche markets or rare labels etc... (and catagories for which that are sometimes maybe considered "alternative" or "elusive to get hold of" or simply just lessor well known)....

....................................>>SO>> therein I ask as to whether we worldwide are getting as good a cross-section of japanese music as "the japanese themselves" no doubt enjoy, this has to be my main question I'd like answered for now, so that I can begin to narrow down some of the bands of true japanese inherentness and of course quality/value and cultural essence, etCetera...etc.

(To add to my ^^MAIN text^^ above, I say in short that in an ALL in ALL nutshell, I'm enquiring to anyone that can shed light on outlets/websites/ sources of availability, which may carry ALL (or some) of such VARIED stocks/types/genres etc all of which is hopefully made available to a wider audience too!... (so that is essentially what I want to know please) ......but preferably where the cultural japanese essence (OLD and MODERN) is not lost in consumerism/commercialization and so on).
