Otherwise, by that logic, when a girl wears suggestive clothing, she's premeditating being raped.

First, let me say that I don't drink and drive. When I was a kid, drunk driver ran into my sister's car and she had back problems ever since. So, I'm not advocating drinking and driving at all.

I understand why you are against drinking and driving, but one or two drinks do not cause horrible accidents like this one. When a car is completely smashed and catches on fire, you better believe that person had ALOT more than 1 or 2 drinks. Someone earlier stated he had 3 beers and 3 shots. I wonder if that's accurate. I think maybe he had even more that.

Exactly - not logical to accuse the girl wearing skimpy clothing of premeditating being taken advantage of in any way.
Just as is it is not logical to say someone who gets drunk premeditated driving.

In both situations, the person acknowledges, or should acknowledge, that they are taking a risk, however slight or great, and that there are potential consequences. This doesn't justify the person who takes advantage of her, and this doesn't justify the drunk person's friends who convince him to drive when he is in a suggestible state.

What I'm really saying here, because this is starting to trail off, is that the word "premeditated" was being horribly misused.

I can't BELIEVE there are people on this board who are advocating driving drunk as long as it's "only a few drinks"

Wow. It's crazy how you can see someone else die from doing something so stupid and yet think you're invulnerable yourself.

I live in England and here, driving a vehicle after having a drink is viewed as a serious crime.

One glass, one bottle or all night session - you're treated the same.

Punishment can be anything from a hefty fine and losing the right to drive and anything up to and including several years in jail. In my opinion, it's a good, good thing. Zero tolerance.

When you've buried friends and family because someone "felt fine to drive", then come back to me and tell me it's ok.

This. Exactly.

's all a matter of perspective.

Some people can drive safely whilst being piss drunk.

Some people will become bad drivers after only one or two beers.

And how do you determine that?

The logical thing is to not put peoples lives at risk and not be an idiot because you thought you felt fine to drive. Sober people get into car accidents too, and every drink you have is increasing your chance of crashing more and more.

EVERYONE who has ever died from drunk driving thought they were great at it and it would never happen to them, do you really not get that? Ryan Dunn was notorious for his awful dangerous driving and thought it would never happen to him, well now he's dead and he killed his friend too. You only have to **** up once.

BUT you have to take into consideration, drinking distorts your thoughts- they THINK they're driving well but it's not really up for debate- alcohol distorts your judgment and you're putting people's lives at risk when you drive after drinking.

Also, the rules need to apply to everyone regardless because without applying it to everyone, it invites a lot of problems to occur.

I don't think he had a drinking problem, but he definitely had a driving-after-drinking problem.

Too soon?

Only time i've done something this stupid i was 14 and got in the car with my drunk friend, myself and 3 other people were high. He was driving 70 on a regular street that was like 40mph, my perception was so distorted i thought he was going like 25. I thought it was funny, the three in the back were scared and telling him to stop, i can't remember if i was wearing a seat belt, i don't think the driver was. Before that happened i said i'd never get into the car with a drunk driver, but i did because he was my only ride home. After it happened ever since i've known how very lucky we all were, we are all alive and that driver now has his girlfriend and his two year old daughter. If i could go back in time, i would not change it, because i think it made me think and i won't do it again with anyone drunk or high and won't drive myself either. I've never been one to think I or anyone else was invincible, and being drunk or high can hugely change the way you think and your perception. I'm not even of legal drinking age, but if i do ever drink i will make sure i have an alternative ride, and if it's a friend and their dumb ass decides their going to drink instead of being my DD like planned, then i will find another way, even if i had to call a parent at 3am and piss them off, i'm betting they'd rather wake up and get me then get the call i'm dead.

WRONG !. If you didn't work out plans to keep the drunk driving from ever happening, it's premeditated. And if you're too stupid/careless to make such plans, you're not mature enough to drink a single drop, ever.

Err....no. Some people may get lucky and not have an accident if they drive while being piss drunk. That's not the same as being able to drive safely.

I can't believe how on other pages people say things like "good riddance" about him because he ws drunk but feel bad about his passenger who obviously knew that his friend was drunk before getting into the car. I feel bad for both of them. it is a bad idea to drunk drive, but i don't expect drunk people to make good decisions. don;t people do stupid things when drunk? sure some of them can make the stupid decision of getting behind the wheel.

and yeah, some people can drive when having a few drinks. i could never do it, but it has a lot to do with BMI

A few drinks doesn't get everyone drunk, plus it depends on whether or not the drinks were consumed in a short period of time, food was consumed, what kind of drinks they were, how big the person is, etc. I can drink 2 fruity drinks in about 2 hours and won't be even close to drunk. (2 ounces of liquor in 2 hours is nothing). 2 cranberry and vodka's in 2 hours will leave my BA level at about .036.

I have no doubt that you'd be okay to drive after only 2 drinks spread out over a long period of time, but alcohol affects everybody differently and everyone has their own definition of what "a few drinks" means. Envy was saying some people are okay driving while piss drunk, and that sounds like a lot more alcohol than 2 cranberry and vodkas

I personally get ridiculously loopy after only a drink or two, I'd never be able drive while intoxicated. And since alcohol affects everyone differently and people arbitrarily decide what a few drinks is AND on top of that being drunk makes you feel more confident about your abilities than you should be I would never feel safe telling people it's okay to drink a little before they drive, especially in a thread about a guy who died and killed his friend in a drunken crash. I imagine Ryan Dunn thought he was okay to get behind the wheel too.

Actually, people can get into horrible crashes where the car catches on fire while completely sober, it happens every day. 1 or 2 drinks just don't help things at all, you need to pay attention when you're driving. Even going a night without sleep or being stressed out can impair your driving skills.

Well, slight hyperbole there then, but the point still stands.
