Im new to veggie eating. Slowly adjusting and learning. what really upsets me is that im on several medications (a couple of which i have decided to quit taking because they arent "life saving" meds) One for my heart, my thyroid, insulin (Lantus Praise God its not made from animals such as what i was on before...Novolin) and a couple others....

What breaks my heart is NOW after researching and finding out about animal testing and animal bi products actually in meds. yes i know its not my fault, but i cant stop taking some of these because I must take them to keep me going. (also i have a defib/pacemaker which im sure was used on some animals for its testing) Anyway its just heartbreaking because i feel helpless to do anything. Anyone else going through this too?

Even the president of PETA still takes insulin and other animal derived medications.

You can't help the animals if you're dead. So... keep taking your meds.

erm... with the antidepressants and valium, please say you didn't stop them cold, and withdrew slowly under some kind of supervision.

*has vivid and nasty memories of the side effects of cutting out her own antidepressents dead stop*

i think with the meds, its important to feel like you can do something, even if its not what you'd like to be able to do in an ideal world. for example, you can support scientific groups that help find alternatives to animal experiments, you can write to pharmacutical companies expressing your hope that future medicines are made using alternatives to animal based ingredients wherever possible, etc.
