I was reading a anti-vegan website and there were just a bunch of vegan haters talking about how vegans are either Gay, stupid, dying, sick, etc. And one person said he wishes Vegans would just go live in there own little vegan island and leave everyone else alone. Man, i wish there was such a place!!!!! I feel at home when i'm in a health food store.lol, surronded by people like me. It would be so nice on a vegan island, everything vegan, no meat, no reading ingredients!! Man!! Just thought i'd let you know.

Count me in for such a place, I'll join you! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)"> (virtually at least!) <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/wink3.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=";)"><br><br>
There are examples of vegan get-aways to an island... I have the<br><br>
site's web address somewhere... I'll try and dig them out of the<br><br>
one or so I know.

Despite my rational nature, or perhaps because of it, I occasionally daydream about creating such a place... It puts a smile on my face.

It'd be cool. But I have a lot of great omni friends.<br><br><br><br>
I wish the anti-vegans could have their own little island, where those gay, stupid, dying and sick little individuals can stay the hell away from us. Now that would be cool.

That island sounds like fun. I heard there's an all-vegan commune in Hawaii. That's weird, I'm vegan but I'm not sickly, dying or stupid. I also don't see how what you eat determines your sexuality? Maybe the whole vegetable/phallic association<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/naughty.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":naughty:">

There's a tradition of eating meat being macho, and women being vegetarian because they're more sensative, blah, blah, blah, and a recent Gallup poll showed that female vegetarians outnumber male vegetarians in the US, while vegans presented a more balanced ratio.

Yea, All of my friends are omni. I only know of one Vegan, and he was my counsler at summer camp when i was like 11 years old, i seen him a few days ago when i made my first trip to the health food store (which was awesome, they had a vegetarian cafe), but anyways he worked there. It kinda sucks not knowing any vegans, i wish all my friends were vegan. Oh well.lol

Yeah , silly isn't it.<br><br><br><br>
I remember asking for vegetarian or vegan cookbooks at a second hand book store and it's like this guy working there (not the owners) said "well **I** don't know anything about **THAT**" and he acted kindof odd like he didn't even want to be overheard even having a conversation like this ... LOL .... I thought it was pretty odd at the time.<br><br><br><br>
Anyway, how is grabbing a prepackaged slab of meat in plastic wrap a manly activity.<br><br><br><br>
Even if the person had to kill their own meat animal, how is killing a cow a manly act. Is the cow a ferocious beast which would attack you and kill you thus making it an act of bravery to overcome such a montrous threat to one's life ... ? Yeah right<br><br><br><br><br><br>
Don't even get me started on calf roping at like the Calgary Stampede .... oh yeah , "Big Man" there .... geesh! :-(<br><br><br><br>
What a load of crap all these silly gender issues are ... makes me shake my head in disbelief at some of these stupid attitudes.

The image of a cow as a ferocious beast reminded me of a Simpson's episode...<br><br><br><br>
Jimmy: Uhh, Mr. McClure? I have a crazy friend who says its wrong to eat meat. Is he crazy?<br><br>
Troy: Nooo, just ignorant. You see your crazy friend never heard of "The Food Chain". [Flash to a picture of "Food Chain", with all animals and arrows pointing to a silhouette of a human.] Just ask this scientician.<br><br>
Scientician: [Looking up from a microscope.] Uhhh...<br><br>
Troy: He'll tell you that, in nature, one creature invariably eats another creature to survive. [Images of various wild carnivores attacking and eating others appear.] Don't kid yourself Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, he'd eat you and everyone you care about! [Image of a cow quietly chewing cud.]<br><br><br><br>

My friends would be welcome to visit, or even stay, if they were seduced into veganism after their weeklong vacation in paradise...

Tova - that's a neat find - kind of cultish however. A bit scary to me.<br><br><br><br>
I work with two ladies who have similar backgrounds. One of them was raised in a small vegan community in Arkansas and she grew up speaking Aramaic (that's an extinct language that Jesus spoke). She had to wear purple, and they lived in purple houses, and drove a purple car.<br><br><br><br>
Her name is Atawraw, it's Aramaic for "Breath of Life."<br><br><br><br>
She ran away when she was 18.<br><br><br><br>
This is her father's website - <a href="http://www.thepurplepeople.com/" target="_blank">http://www.thepurplepeople.com/</a><br><br><br><br><br><br>
There's another woman I work with who also grew up in a vegan Hare Krishna community. She, and many other children, ran away together. She was only around 14 or 15?<br><br><br><br>
Her name is Ahimsa, which means nonviolence.<br><br><br><br><br><br>
Both of them are amazing people. One of them is very shy and hardly talks at all to anyone.<br><br><br><br>
Neither of them are vegan anymore.

that is so freakish.. wow.<br><br><br><br>
the vegan island idea sounds great to me, but in reality i wouldn't want to give up the luxuries of the urban vegan. unless there is a permanent supply of tofutti cuties in the island, now that's another story... <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="">

Hi cookingVeg, I was ROTFLMAO when I first saw that Simpsons episode!<br><br><br><br>
I like the idea of a vegan resort -- they have 'em for all kinds of special interests, after all. No cultish stuff, just a nice tropical getaway where you never have to hopelessly scan the menu or relentlessly quiz the waiter ... we could lounge on the beach, meet other vegans, and order food and drink without fear. Talk about relaxing!

What puzzles me is why there would even be an anti-vegan site. What makes vegans so threatening that people feel compelled to attack us?

Because they know we're right and they do everything to stay in denial.
