the atkins diet is unhealthy. ediets.com (et. al.) prey on people with real psychological issues. they're scum.

v3gan - i don't take what YOU'RE saying the wrong way at all. I just want to help to make sure that you don't take what EDIETS is saying the wrong way.

True that. I donated $65 to ediets a while ago. They are such a rip. Then I realized that I'm OK just the way I am. Thiness is really overrated. I'm going to enjoy lifes ride and not pout over not reaching a certain destination. Does that make sense?

I';m sick of seeing this thing .... it's constantly the banner ad on 'My Yahoo' page. There's also a link on my yahoo mail

I'm at the verge of telling yahoo if I can't have some ad that I'm at least interested in I'll leave their services.

I mean what's the point of dishing out banner ads to people when they hate the product with a passion (can't they at least allow me to choose what products and services I like so I'll get ads that interest me ????)

I like to think of the atkins diet as being very similar to anorexia. The only major difference is that on atkins, your stomach is full of protein. this gets broken down into amino acids. Now, as many of you are aware, amino acids aren't water soluble. What does this mean? More work for the kidneys!

Now, the reason why I believe atkins is similar to anorexia is that if you look at anorexia, no food is eaten, and as a result, the stores of fat in the body are broken down through ketosis. As you know, fat is not energy, but anergy can be made from it, and unfortunately, ther eis a by-product. Ketones are made. On atkins, exactly the same happens, because no carbs are eaten. The body begins to eat itself. This happens with all diets, since body fat is broken down. However, in atkins/anorexia, the fat breakdown is constant, and not gradual. It's a huge burnout. Not all that healthy.

A colleague of mine is on atkins, and she asked me if it works. My reply:

"You'll lose weight, because you're not getting any energy. But it's not healthy."

And she left her atkins book at her desk and when people went past, they kept saying "You're not doing that are you?" and they kept advising her that she should only do it short term. I've had a flick through the atkins book and it has a few recipes in it.

I swear though, I would scream if I was on that diet.

Atkins isn't right for me. Meat is the last thing on my "Foods to eat list" and starving myself is the last thing on my "to do list" Also, if anything, i need to gain weight, and finally, I don't believe that weight reflects upon how good someone is. I would only hold a grudge against someone if they weighed so much they were endangering themselves, or if they weighed so little they were endangering themselves. Yup, so i have no need or desire to lose weight.

And on atkins, here is a list of forbidden foods:

Beer

Falafel

Quinoa

Apple Juice

Fruit

Pizza

Vegetable Rogan Josh w/ rice & naan

Now, if the diet won't let you eat that, what's the point? They're my favourite foods. And this diet advertises itself by saying "Eat the foods you want to eat" And there's no falafel??? Or beer???

No falafel and no beer makes Loki go crazy!

I decided to see what would happen if I did it...

Exclude Red Meat

Exclude Pork

Exclude Poultry

Exclude Fish

Exclude Shellfish

\tExclude Dairy (excludes all milk or dairy products including yogurt and cheese)

Exclude Soy (excludes protein and dairy-substitutes including tofu and soymilk. May include soy-based flavorings such as soy sauce or soybean oil.)

So I excluded all the meats... and I got this response when submitted:

Following the Atkins Nutritional Approach program requires a variety of protein sources such as poultry, fish, shellfish, eggs and red meat. You cannot choose to exclude more than one of the following: red meat, fish, poultry.

But But But... It just said to select AS MANY PREFERENCES as i'd like!!!

Basard.
