I was watching the television recently, and I noticed a lot of ads about cheese and they were clearly aimed at women. ...and thinking about it, I have noticed also that women I know are more likely to talk about cheese...

Is this something only I've noticed or is there a general tendency for women to like cheese more, and is there a reason behind this???

Cheese is addicting to everyone.

Its possible that the ads are more appealing to women bc marketers tend to believe that women do the majority of food shopping and want to appeal to them bc they make the choices at the market.

This. It's generally true for all food ads, with the exception of meat, which is considered to me especially *manly*.

Yeah, marketers mainly try to reach the people who do the shopping (women), and the short people who make annoying and persistent grocery requests (kids). With the exception of meat, which usually features dudes at BBQs in the suburbs. Additionally, I keep seeing ALL dairy (including cheese and string cheese snacks, etc.) marketed to women as a "healthy" way to get calcium and a filling snack.

BUT...

I also totally agree with dormouse. My anectdotal life-evidence gives this question a resounding yes.

I could give the guys I know some really good cheese, and they'd like it... But if I give that same cheese to the women I know, they'd like to be alone with it, ifyaknowwhaddimean.

Not me. I've never been that big a fan of cheese. It's ok, but I never considered it anything special. Giving up cheese is definitely not a problem for me in trying to eat more vegan.

More anecdotal evidence supporting the OP's suspicion.

I wonder if a lot of it is cultural. I was talking with French (male) vegan just yesterday and he was all about the cheese. Guys here can be pretty snobby about cheese too, even.

The most hardcore cheese addicts (as incheese in/on almost everything) that I know are male, as are the people I know who are most appreciative of gourmet cheeses. The latter are guys who are also into wine, etc.

Foodies are really in to food. Some are men and some are women. Most are really in to cheese and wine and such.

I would say there is no differences in gender for people who love cheese, I used to be a huge cheese fiend, as did my ex boyfriend.....He still has cheese on most meals....
