Many of you have already seen this I know. I ran across it again listening to other Ira Glass stuff and it really reminds you how much power one person or one simple meeting can have on someone else. I'd be willing to bet that many more became vegetarian once they heard him tell this story on tv. We don't all have the power to spread a message through a medium like television but that doesn't mean we aren't powerful.

I did not expect Ira Glass to look like that.

he told that story in a very demeaning way to AR activists. He made Davis seem really crazy. Very surprising he ended up vegetarian at the end. It's too bad he can't find a more impactful way to tell that story, if he really cares about chickens.

I disagree. He stayed in character and opened up at the same time. Better food for thought for the general public than a red-eyed condemning lecture.

Also going to disagree. He made her sound persistant, and demonstrated that through the personal interactions with her, he had a change of heart to something that he had really never considered, and even found odd and funny to begin with.

What did you think he said to make her sound crazy?

IMO, he was telling it like he was a character in a story. we know the end result, but he's telling us how he felt as all of it was actually happening. It makes for more compelling, realistic storytelling and makes it easier for meateaters to relate to him and and more likely to consider what he's saying, than if someone who was already clearly against meateating were to say it.

This is what I was thinking.
