officially today. WHO HOO im excited.

i went to the store and bought lots of fruit and veggies (interesting stuff like kiwis and blackberrys, so i dont get bored).... vegan MF burgers, vegan MF "chicken" strips, boca chicken nuggets, beans, nut butter to satisfy my mom's fear of me not getting enough protein...flax/brown rice pasta, sunflower seed bread, and a lara bar. my only disappointments were that luna bars and most morningstar farm products aren't vegan. oh well.

any suggestions or improvements on my food list? oh and it would be a huge help if you guys listed some popular brands that are vegan.

thanks!

According to LUNA's Web site's FAQ's:

Q: Are there any animal products in LUNA?

A: LUNA does not contain animal products or ingredients sourced from animal products.

Oh and congrats on going vegan!

If I remember correctly, the Luna bar package says that it was processed in a facility that also processes dairy just in case you're worried about getting a molecule or two of milk in your food.

It's an allergen warning. I don't know of any vegans who equate an allergen warning with a product not being vegan.

Thanks everyone!

i do have one problem. this morning i had field hockey practice for two hours, before it i had 1/2 a luna bar and 1/2 a piece of toast. (i cant stomach much early in the morning)...and during the practice i felt so weak and sick. at one point i thought i was going to pass out/puke which is really strange because i was very hydrated, very in-shape from running my butt off this summer, and tryouts weren't hard or anything new. the only thing i can point a finger at is my diet. i've never been much of a cook, so my vegetarian diet was never great...i dont know i'm confused. when i came home, i had a cup of flax&brown rice pasta, another luna bar, a banana, an apple, 1/4 cup of nuts, some soy&flax tortilla chips, umm...a few "chik'n" nuggets, and a little cup of applesauce. (that was all basically grazing over the afternoon, i was starving). i think it was all pretty healthy except the fake chicken, but i'm trying to break that phase. my energy is still the lowest it's ever been in my life. i thougth that food would give me some energy but it made me more tired. i also was looking for somethign to eat for dinner and everything seemed boring, or i've already eaten it a bunch of times this week. i think i'll go look up some vegan recipes. but, does anyone see something i'm doing wrong?

P.S..yesterday i ate

b-1/2 a piece of toast, a soy yogurt

l-a huge salad, 2 rice/flaxseed cakes, a kiwi

s-smoothie:frozen soymilk, banana, mango puree

d-1 cup of flax/brownrice pasta, 1/4 cup of mixed nuts

s-another soy yogurt

Since you are doing alot of cardio, try moving your fruit to the AM, either in the form of a morning smoothie or several bananas before cardio. You should have something immediately after your workout. Lunch looks good, except be careful on eating any fruit within 1/2hr to 1 hr before or after any other food, it could upset your stomach. I would replace the cracker with avacado, olives, or the like. Move the flax to your smoothie. Dinner should include more veggies, move more fats to your end of day like nuts and avacado. I don't eat soy myself anymore and it made a huge difference in my endurance.

Your going to have to try to move it around a bit changing it up every few weeks until you find the optimim caloric/fat/carb/protein intake for your body. Everyone is different, but that'll give you some place to start. Feeling icky after working out should only happen on a rvery rare occassion (everyone has their off days), but if it is happening often, you need to change it up.
