Much needed vent.

People post whatever they want on FB, even If I do not agree I'm polite and respect what they write. As soon as I write anything vegan related I am attacked. Let me dot point this because I'm so frustrated!

1. Vegans like to push their views on non vegans (Hello look at all the non vegan advertising every where) I'm all for freedom of speech, etc... But my problem with the majority of vegans is the way they push the issue and try to make me feel guilty for not being like them. - from a 'friend'

2. As long as we kill animals 'humanely' then it is okay. (So is it okay to kill a human humanely?)

3. The whole humans were meant to eat animals

4. Vegan are sick and pale

5. We have canines, and incisors those are for meat; it is not to be our only diet we are not carnivores, we are omnivores our diet should be meat and a lot of grains, veggies, etc...hence the "hunter-gatherer" part of our ancestry.

6. Vegans like to make it hard for non vegans to cook for them

I'm so sick of being polite about this. What a load of f'ing ****! This is what I get every day.

Yeh I know what you mean I posted something about the food crisis and linking it to meat today as a status and it sparked a 56 comment debate on the issue. Petitions too, people always feel the need to tell me why they won't sign my petition. Its like "sign it or ignore it, but I don't care about your opinion"

The same happened to me. Should I apologise that I'm trying to do something to save the lifes of animals? Did I say something that hurt? I wonder how the animals feel being lead to a slaughterhouse. People can be a$$holes!!!

Like vegans can help it if others can't cook outside their (meaning the person making the statement) comfort zone (or at least learn new skills).

In regards to #3 and 5, my response is that, from an ecological approach, it doesn't matter if we were "meant" to eat meat, or if we've been doing it for the course of human history - the way we're doing it now is neither natural nor sustainable.

I'm sorry. I've never had that happen with any link I've posted. Usually I've posted a link about Farm Sanctuary. One friend donated for rescued Jay and another who never heard of Farm Sanctuary plans to visit. She actually lives in Orland.

This is why I have few "friends" on facebook. I only have actual friends and a few former work related people I want to stay in contact with.

I'd be really upset if people had over 50 debate posts going. Probably a lot of negative stuff too. Facebook is my little piece on the internet and I want to keep it peaceful.

Would you consider dumping some of those "friends"?

I can understand how fustrating this is, but I also think that if you post controversial links/oppinions/statements on a social networking site you really are looking for oppinions or comments - otherwise you wouldn't post it - it seems sort of silly to me, because surely you would expect this kind of response?

You could just post these things to specific people who you know are more receptive to the ideas?

Sometimes yes with certain statements and such but I've stopped doing that and when it comes to petitions I'm posting them to 1) raise awareness with the 50+ veg*n friends I have 2) get signatures.

Aye I understand why you'd want to post petitions without looking for debate. If it's really bothering you, you could just email/face-book-message all your contacts and cross off the ones who usually spark debate - also with it not being public they'd probally be less likley to want to air their veiws.

I don't have this problem, no one's ever commented (negativly) on any of the petitions I've ever linked, but if I did start to get it I think that's what I'd do.

I really do not post anything too controversial links/opinions/statements. I posted a quote I read about heart attacks and people went on how far fetched it was stating 'animal products do not cause health problems etc'

Friend me and I'll back you up :p Most of my facebook friends share my beliefs regarding vegansim, so it is rarely a problem. But when someone (usually it is the same 3 or 4 people) feel the need to be rude or snarky regarding something I posted about my lifestyle, I just ignore them.

In a few cases, I changed my settings so that a few people can't see it when I update my status That might be the best bet for you.

The canine argument is so stupid. Tell them to tell you about their canines after they've chased down a live animal and torn it apart with their ever so sharp teeth and eaten it raw just like lions do.

"Vegans are sick and pale"

Some people are naturally pale. For cryin' out loud, I can't get a tan to save my life. It's called genetics. Some people are just darker than others. It's no big deal.

"Vegans like to make it hard for non vegans to cook for them"

Yep! Absolutely love it! I wake up every morning wondering who I can irritate today with my "special" diet requirements.

I don't post anything on my facebook because i don't have any vegan friends. i'm not even selective with my friends, i add lots of people i meet online (though i haven't added anyone from veggie boards yet) and not even one of my friends are vegetarian, but i posted something about me going vegan when i became one and i got a lot bad messages in my inbox, yet no one was brave enough to voice their opinions on my actual status

My reply to that first one is that I can't make a person feel anything. Only a person can feel for himself. If I show someone an image and it makes them feel guilty, that guilt is inside of them. Not the image and not something I project. The feelings are theirs.
