So today is officially day 3 of me not eating meat. I havent really eaten steak or pork in a while anyway, but I had chicken about 34 times a week. Well I started on Saturday, and im still going strong today! I ate 2 egg beaters, 2 slices smart bacon and a slice of healthy wheat toast with cinnamon and splenda for breakfast, and a green bean, green peppers, broccoli, mushroom, onion, and smart chicken strips stir fry with rice, and a ½ smart baloney sandwich with sprouts, lettuce, and veggie cheese for lunch. MMM. I have yogurt with fresh strawberries and blueberries, a small protein bar, an apple, and a 100 cal pack of cookies for snacks. Dinner is going to be 3 hard bean tacos with fat free sour cream and lettuce. I wont let the stir fry was a bit hard for me to eat at first because it doesnt really taste like chicken but I dont even mind, after watching some of those videos I cant make myself eat real chicken now. I wouldnt even bother with the fake meat if it werent for the fact that I work out 2 hours per day and really need the protein. The sandwich however is amazing; I like it better then most stuff with real meat! I am still on the fence about fish and shrimp.. I found a place that has the meat sub shrimp and fish..maybe ill try some and see if I can handle the switch, someone tell me something really bad about the way the catch the fish and stuff so it makes it easier to give up!

Sorry I know most of you havent eaten meat for a while so you think that im being stupid, but im excited and proud of myselfI have been saying I wanted to do this for a while but was scared of how my boyfriend would react since he thinks being a vegetarian is stupid and gay and is a total I want to live off meat kinda person, but he is the most supportive one! He knows that its better for my heart and I have a 80% hereditary chance of heart problems and he doesnt want me to dieso whatever reason make him support it ill take!

I most certainly DON'T think you're stupid! Most of us were new vegetarians at one time, and there are still a few veg newbies around here! I think it's great that you made the switch, and keep it up!

As far as bad things about seafood, here are a couple... (I just googled)

Fish Sentience

about lobsters.

I grew up in a lobster fishing village, and I know how IMPOSSIBLE it would be to ever convince anyone of that - the things they do to lobsters and fish while they are still alive is horrendous. There are no such things as Fish-welfare laws. (not that the animal welfare laws do all that much - but you get the point).

Also, the environmental aspect of the fishing industry is huge.

Here

And Here.

In regard to your concern about switching off seafood, let me just say I had the same problem. I lOVED shrimp, lobster etc so what I did was wait about a year and then switch off. Remember not to go to fast because if you do it can become overwhelming, and just by going veg you are saving a lot of animals. You sound like you are doing a great job, and are a bit healthier than I am after a year and a half. haha it can get difficult at time. Wait to go though~!

Congrats!

With regards to the fake meats, I didn't like them much at first. You may want to stick more to things like nuts, seeds, nut butters, tofu, tempeh, beans and legumes, until you forget what real meat tastes like. There are tons of high protein foods that aren't fake meats.

Also, many mock meats taste like butt. Others are fantatic. Many people don't agree on which are which, so try a few different brands if you are wanting to experiement
