I feel extremely weird for posting this, being a long term member here, but I really want to try it. Almost every single thing I eat is cooked. When I became vegan, I became so because I love every soul on this planet, not because I wanted to be healthy, as such my vegan eating tendencies parallel that of when I ate animals. So today I'll be going grocery shopping and buying all sorts of fruits, veggies, and nuts, and steering clear of the freezer aisle, which is usually where I primarily shop. I plan to do this until my Birthday, June 21st, and see where I am from there and if I want to make it a life long commitment. I know posts like this pop up all the time in this thread, but I kind of need to say it to a group of people because then I feel as though it gives me some degree of accountability.

Now all I have to do is get over telling my dad in the morning that I don't in fact want pancakes, and I want to go to Robeks instead of Starbucks... because I'm guessing a hazelnut soy latte isn't part of the plan...

Hi River,
Good for you. I guess my best advice for you would be to tell you about my own experience with raw. I consider myself a raw foodist, but I will never be 100% raw. I'd say I'm about 50% raw and the rest, since the new year, I am now a gluten-free vegan. Raw is wonderful and if you plan on doing it 100%, I say "go for it". I, myself, can't do it all of the time. I can go about 2-3 days, then I start craving cooked foods. So, I figure I'm getting the best of both worlds. I would miss certain foods like beans, tofu, etc. too much. I guess what I am trying to say is, if you find yourself struggling, just be gentle and kind to yourself and do the best you can. I think the idea is to get as close to "whole" foods as possible, and you'll be doing the best for your body. I hope I helped you. I find myself having a hard time telling you in words what I want to say.

I like eating raw, mostly because I'm too lazy to cook Good luck!

Good Luck!!
I too am a long time member just delving into this sub-forum... haha! It's funny how it feels like a pretty natural next step. Lately when I eat raw foods, they taste so fresh and vibrant, and I feel great in my body. I'm noticing that cooked foods are not really appealing to me anymore. If I do eat something cooked, it's very simple and basic, like grilled tofu and plain rice, with fresh veggies on it. Something like that. Otherwise my meals are totally raw, I have been doing tonnes in the dehydrator and food processor.

It may be difficult to do a raw food diet while still living with your parents. If they don't want to be spending lots of money on fresh produce, or if they think it's just a phase/don't take it seriously, then it will be challenging. Make sure they see that you know what you are doing in order to eat balanced meals with enough of everything, by incorporating nuts, seeds, sprouted grains, and greens, superfoods etc for nutrition. Make them a raw cheesecake, that will win them over!

I think its great that everone tries to incorporate at least 1 or 2 meals a day of raw vegan food, then eat the cooked meal at night. You will feel so much better. I was a little overwelmed at first like it was a part time job just to make meals, but I feel better about things, and I plan ahead of time for dehydrating things. I stronly suggest a few uncook books, first MIMI Kirk, she is also on youtube, and Ani Phyo, they have helped my raw food life style a great deal. I have ben almost 100% raw vegan for 3 months now and it was fairly easy for me, but I had a huge insentive, I have cancer and I am getting rid of it this way, so imagine the great things that is does for your health and your body. If anyone has any questions please ask away. Good luck to anyone trying this. You will never regret it.

Good luck hun!

Keep us posted how it goes!

I am not going raw myself but I'd like to go MORE raw. I always find really inspiring to read about what other people are up to, especially what they're eating

Lol well, so far it's meant "Blend all foods (whole and raw) and strawberries, eat" lol I'll get better at it.
