I was at a dinner party the other night and unfortunately (yet not unavoidably) my "veganism" came up as a topic of discussion.<br><br><br><br>
I had my mouth full of salad when someone asked me "so you're vegan mainly for ethical reasons?" to which I nodded 'yes'. Then he said "well, that's okay by me". I am SO glad he was okay with it; I don't know what I would have done otherwise.

HA! That's funny. That's up there with the "Do you eat _______ ?" game <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)">

I think people who say "that's okay" don't REALLY think it's okay, either...but, it's better than "What the hell?" (My daughter got that one once)

it's definately more fun than the "let's hold meat in your face and see how long it takes you to freak out" game

it was, but it was time to move on to new and better things after the first 3 years...luckily people have mellowed a bit and only on rare occasions do i have to engage in these less than pleasant experiences.

It's also more fun than the "Let's see how many condiments we can think of that taste good on steak that don't on lettuce and consider that proof that veg*nism is stupid" game.

I was at a meeting at work earlier tonight, and I was complaining that I had to be giving up my oh-so-exciting saturday night of getting drunk and hanging out at home to be at the dumb meeting.<br><br><br><br>
Anyway, my co-workers were like, "WHAT?? <b>YOU</b> drink?!?"<br><br><br><br>
And I was like, "Uhh, yeah, so what?"<br><br><br><br>
"We didn't know 'holy Brian' drank!!"<br><br><br><br>
"What, since I don't eat meat I'm some kind of straight-edge saint?"<br><br><br><br>
"YEAH!!"<br><br><br><br>
I found that really annoying.

Isn't most beer and wine made with animal-derived filters or something? I read a Veg & Vegan FAQ book once that said most are non-vegan.

Why is there no problem when one says:<br><br><br><br>
I dont eat that, my religion forbids me to. (Muslim/jews)<br><br><br><br>
But when I say I choose not to eat that because <b>I</b> think.. people seem to be offended?

When you pass the buck to the religion, I suppose you're asserting that your religion is right, not that you as an individual are right. I agree, it makes little sense.
