ok...so im not as controlled by all htis stuff anymore. i eat junk. i love life

id like to understand better though.

a) fruit does count in overall sugar intake, obviously, right?

B) it doesn't count in the whole 40g thing though (though i eat far less than that just coz i don't like sweet stuff that much)

and c) where does that leave muffins etc. that have no added sugar but are sweetened with apple juice etc.? im assuming they're still up there?

today, forexample, under the 'sweet stuff' category ive had a giant vegan no-sugar orange and poppyseed muffin , and a carrot (which was sweet for some reason) and an apple.

technically ive had 'no sugar' ...so eating chocolate or whatever would not be in excess? but at the same time..thats a lot more sugar than i have on most days? i dont really understand !! (i wont lose sleep over it, im just curious)

i also eat a lot of carbs. when i stopped obsessing over things, i didn't notice, but i just counted up an average day and i average over 300. i eat many less carbs when i eat more 'junk' like chocolate. but when i try to go for wholefoods i go over 300 easy. im sure its better to do the whole food thing though right? never was a fan of low carb (no offence to people who swear by it)

From all your post, you just need to meditate and not worry what goes into to your body or does not from day to day. Chill, in a nice way. Life is way to short for the worries that you have. Stress can kill you faster. That is true.

Sorry i have no answers for you.... but what i wana know is, is peanut butter bad for you?? My housemates have said a few times that it is, but are they just referring to the sugary/salty ones? Cos i just eat the natural. Is that bad for you too? Obviously i think excessive amounts will be bad for you, but what about natural pb in moderation?

Please don't worry so much about what you eat. Natural sugar in fruit is okay. You're fine.

[begin rant]

The whole carbs thing is an unfortunate byproduct of the Atkins and low-carb craze. However, while I generally deplore the Atkins diet it brought up a really good point: Americans are eating way too many simple carbs. In my mind, the answer is not fat and protein, but whole grains, legumes, and veggies. Ultimately the AD and "low-carb" craze was a valuable piece in the dialectical process of shaping how we think about what we put into our bodies.

[/end rant]

Anyway, if you are focusing on eating whole foods, fruits, veggies, etc. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

PB is mucho high in fat. Small amounts are probably fine, unless you work out a lot or have a high metabolism, in which case you could eat more of it. The natural stuff is much better for you than Skippy or any of that other crap PB.

Moderation is one of those tricky relative words.

Your so right Dino, but it's unfortunately it's wasted breath with Taurus....tomorrow she'll make yet another thread worrying about something else.

please stop worrying about how much of this or that. eat what you like. you know the drill. restricting carbs is just another way of restricting.

wow. ok. no, i won't just make another thread about something else tomorrow. i swear ill take this in. i just..want to do the best thing by my body. i do .

i truly TRULY have been obsessing so much less. and its GREAT!! and last night i was so hungry at the ballet, and all they sold was chocolate. but instead of going hungry because of too much sugar or whatever i just ate it.

this morning there was only white toast. but i had it anyway. the list goes on. but i DO know that im still obsessing somewhat. i guess it just feels like the smart thing to do. y'know? i don't wanna just ..fill myself up with crap.

BUT..for some reason, most of those responses really hit me.

i was going to have an apple in like 10 minutes, but actually craving one of these vegan muffin things from down the road. because why have MORE processedy products on top of white toast. white toast alone is risky. but now im thinking..when did a VEGAN muffin become poison?

so im going to have it anyway. and im going out to dinner tonight so id planned on living off fruit and veg all day and then having pasta or something. but why should going out to dinner change what i have during the day?! does it in everyone? im thinking no.

SO...today. is going to be a day, where i eat literally whatever. and see what happens. i did that for a few days last week. no idea how much of each vitamin i ate, how many carbs etc. and it was great.

this is round 2.

it sounds so stupid, but its stressing me out before its already started. but you're right. that isn't normal. and you're right, stress will get me faster!!

i shall zip my mouth on the whole issue now.

and yeah thats what i thought about the carbs. but my mum came over the other day and told me i had too much brown rice on my plate and that it was bad for me, unrelated to atkins. not weight wise, coz im underweight. but body wise. same with fruit. that 'any sugar is sugar. but fruit's a better choice because of the nutrients. however you don't want to go overboard.'

hmm. but yes...i shall see how today pans out...

and thank you. i know you want to harpoon me at this stage and im glad that nobody did..

taurushead; it sounds like you're making progress and not obsessing as much. And that is really good. But there is one thing you said that I wonder about. You said that your mum said you have too much brown rice on your plate. If my daughter was underweight, I wouldn't discourage her from eating, especially something healthy like brown rice. It looks to me like maybe she is obsessing over your diet also and maybe that's part of the problem.
