Must announce.....Yesterday, on Wednesday, June 4, 2003, I was blessed with two new bouncing baby guinea pigs! I had previously requested help in another thread about naming my guinea pig. As it turned out, my pig Lucy was actually a Ricky. We next discovered that Docile, our pretty little piggie, was pregnant. Well....she had her babies and they are two very healthy and beautiful piggies. They look exactly like their father - solid black.

If only I had some little carrot cigars to pass out.....

Yes...I agree, we need pictures. I will get the hubby to dust off the camera and get some posted over the weekend. It's cute - they look just like their daddy.

Names....kinda hard since we've yet to figure out if they are girls or boys. I've been calling one muffin-stuff and my daughter seems to be calling them food names like pie. Interesting...maybe I should feed my child.

Yes, mouse, like your name, they are adorable. I will get some pictures posted soon, but until then, if you look at the thread where I was asking for help with naming the father, I posted a link to see the father. The babies literally look like smaller versions of their dad. It's sorta like Mini-me from Austin Powers. (I only know this from tv commercials...personally, the show is weird) It's amazing at how big the babies are, though. They must be 1/3 the size of the mommy....I can't imagine having to give birth to something that large. I expected them to be teeny-tiny and was surprised to see tons of hair, open eyes and LOTS of movement. I read that you should pet them and hold them as much as possible to socialize them with humans. Well...my daughter walks around all day long with those babies in her arms. Last night she gave each one a personal tour of the house..they seem to enjoy being held. One even starts weeping loudly when she places him/her back into the cage. It's really cute.

Thanks, Raine, for the compliment. I think the babies look just like their daddy. It's also funny, but the two babies look almost identical with the exception of one that has like 3 strands of white fur on the top of it's little head. The amount of white is so small, that I thought the spot was a piece of lint or something. I don't think you can see it on the picture, but it's there. They are so sweet!

Thanks, LadyFaile....they are cute!! I was so shocked at how big they were at birth, though. I feel sorry for the poor mommy. Animals are truly amazing.

Amazingly, they were born looking just like they do in the photo. They were about 1/3 the size of momma, and within an hour or so, they were running around making little weepy noises. They eat food, drink water and nurse. It's truly amazing! After momma cleaned them (following birth, that is) their little coats were all wet and wavy. By the next day, they were soft as little kittens. Oh...they are so sweet. Thanks for the comments, sedim.

How sweet!! Congrats to you and the new mommy!

Just a reminder to make sure you sex them soon. If there is a little boy, he'll have to be removed after 3 weeks, to make sure he doesn't try to mate with his mom. Minibean provided a great link on how to sex guinea pigs in the other thread.

More pigtures please! I love them babies!
