My new significant other met my father recently, and my dad was telling him how great being a vegetarian was and that he didn't miss meat at all. My boyfriend said, "<i>If I ever went vegetarian</i>, I just don't think I could give up bacon." He also talks about how he has to pretend that he doesn't know about where meat comes from whenever he's eating it. He's brought that up at least three times.<br><br>
Is it stupid for me to be really optimistic about this? :p

It's definitely a start. However, don't try to force anything. That will only push him away from vegetarianism.

I really never got the bacon thing. Even when I was omni it wasn't the be-all and end-all that so many people act like it is. Plus it's just too obviously a part of some poor little pig.<br><br>
But yea... sounds positive, but don't force it. Just make amazing food and have them interested.

For me, after a few weeks of being meatless, I lost my cravings for any meat. I remember going to the grocery store and not wanting to see meat anymore after a month, because it grossed me out. Same way with coffee and soda; when I gave them up, after a couple weeks, those cravings were gone.

If he has to pretend that he doesn't know where meat comes from when he's eating it, then there is definitely hope.

Have you tried making him a fake bacon sandwich or a meal with it in? that might help him to see that he could give up the real stuff.
