I've noticed that everytime I take a multivitamin, my pee is a freaky neon green/yellow color. I know pee gets darker from dehydration, but this is not the case. I heard that the color is from vitamins that your body wouldn't absorb. Does this mean that this type of multivitamin doesn't work for me? I've only noticed this since I switched to vegan multivitamins.

Yeah.... It's the body getting rid of too much vitamins I think. I had it too after taking vitamins (which I stopped a while ago).

All the money you shelled out.... It's all in there... Well at least it's an interesting sight. (I guess for guys it's a bit more spectacular)

I might add that in re to micronutrients, like vitamins, if you have too much of one, then it may interfere with your asorbtion of another micronutrient. That is just one reason why micronutrients should not be taken in quantities that are a lot larger than what you actually need.

You generally should not take "high-potency" vitamins unless specifically prescribed by a doctor for a specific disease.

There are some exception, to some degree. B vitamins should be avoided in excess. Some excess of b12 is acceptable, but not too much of an excess.

i remember reading *somewhere* that they're now recommending everyone take a multi since the majority of people eat nutritionally empty foods. i dunno. i myself take a multi daily, PLUS 1200mg calcium AND a 1cc b12 injection monthly that i do myself....but i wouldn't recommend my regimen for everyone

I know it is a access that the body is getting rid of, but the more you use vitamins, the more it retains.. I mean, I noticed less and less of the discolor the more I used the same amount of vitamins on a daily basis.

Doctor told me a multi vitamin is probably all I would need, but also look into a B-12 in low dose form. He stated I was eating better, but it is always good to have a multi-vitamin in your diet.

I also take fiber pill to help with my digestion, but that is just in my case. I had a case of IBS, but noticed less problems when I went Vegetarian.

Yeah, it might be too much for me. They say to take 3 per day, and they're huge (and pink!). I just really liked them because theyre 100% vegan, and have lots of calcium, iron, and B12 in addition to the usual multi vitamins. The pills themselves reek...theyre so hard to choke down, since they aren't coated w/ gelatin. I think i'll try taking less of them, they could have been intended for 300lb men.

I'm looking at Pangea's VeganLife multivitamins, and I don't like what I see. Riboflavin, which vegans rarely if ever need supplementation for, is present in over 10 times as much as the RDA. And we actually probably need less than the RDA of this partic vitamin. Vitamin B6, 15 times as much as you need. Thiamine, 20 times what you need.

I think this is a downright dangerous formula.

Of course I don't know what vegan formula ebb is taking, but I hope it's not this one.

When I took High potency B vitamins, I not only got urine as ebb described, but I also got pain in my joints. I took them for about a week. A few days after I stopped, my joints got better.

Vitamins are poisons that you need in small amounts. It's dangerous to take them in large amounts.

pyridoxine danger

http://www.merck.com/pubs/mmanual/se...hapter3/3n.htm

While you won't be getting as much b6 as they say is dangerous, just because you don't see obvious harm like they describe, doesn't mean that lower level cumulative harm isn't happening. There is never any need to take a lot more than the rda. Even with a proven deficiency, you would only take 3 or 4 times the rda, not 60 times the rda.

i'd read that it was because of beta carotene. same reason that if you eat too many carrots your skin turns orange. i don't remember where i read it but i remember it saying it wasn't harmful. there is such a thing as too much beta carotene though, especially if you're pregnant or may get pregnant while taking it.
