A few days ago, I called my local Whole Foods to politely complain about the condition of their deli case. It was an absolute mess under that counter, with all the foods heaped on and touching one another, spilling off their dishes onto other foods.
I never bought anything out of that case because I have a food allergy on top of not eating meat. That case always struck me as especially silly, because all the items in that case have a full ingredients list posted, but why bother if everything is cross-contaminated by everything else?
So I finally called them and told them that while I love their store, their deli case is not friendly to vegetarians, vegans or people with allergies, and that they'd only stand to gain by neatening it up and keeping foods separate. After all, isn't their target market people who care about what's in their food?
Today I went there to pick up a few items. And I was blown away. Their whole deli case has been cleaned out, neatened and reorganized. Everything has its own dish. Everything is separate. It looks like the whole thing's been washed from the inside. I'm amazed. I called them less than a week ago.
Sometimes it's so hard to keep a different diet from the majority of society's, and I think it's amazing that at least some businesses care and want to help.
I'll be going there a LOT more often and calling today to express my thanks.
