I'm learning the accordion, and so far I've only learned old classics like Amazing Grace, The Tennessee Waltz, Home on the Range, My Wild Irish Rose, Blowin' in the Wind, etc. I'm trying to learn the Bird Dance now too.

So I want some suggestions of some more popular modern songs that would sound cool on an accordion.

This one has already been done with an accordian so I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for but Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam is a good one. It was originally done by the Vaselines but Nirvana did a cover on their Unplugged album.

It's a nice song.

Actually, Carry On My Wayword Son (Kansas) is on the radio right now and I can imagine it being done to an accordian. Yeah, that would definitely rock.

Jeez. Take it easy. Try "Lose Yourself." How can an Academy Award-winning song go wrong on the accordion?

Lots of Latin American music has accordian and it sounds really great. Carlos Vives (from Colombia) comes to mind... I'm not sure where you'd get sheet music for that though.

I know a woman who plays accordian and she does a rocking rendition of "Light My Fire" by The Doors. It's really cool. Her 3 year old son loves it, too.

I'm a fan of Irish music so I'd suggest some of those songs... Fields of Athenry, Star of the County Down, Galway Girl, Sean South of Garryowen, Only Our Rivers Run Free, On the One Road, etc. Though I am aware that I have a rather unhealthy obsession with Irish music and that many people don't know--and don't care to know--these songs!

How about In-Grid's dance song "Tu es foutu"? I've been listening to it over and over; it's hypnotic or something.
