This is not a troll, so pleeease don't be rude... I've been a vegetarian for about 5 months now. My reasons are for health... so I'm getting pretty worried and of course, it's really embarrassing I have a steady diet if greens, tofu, and my weakness, beans, but the last few weeks I think I'm going to pass a little gas and end up REALLY following through....and it happens more than I feel comfortable saying. I've also been having 'bathroom' problems. Is this normal? or am I missing a really important ingredient to my diet? (I am also anemic if that helps)

No, that is very not normal. Go to a doctor?

I agree on doctor. Might be intestinal issues or an intolerance for a new food.

Hmm yeah i guess a dr. would be the best course of action. It could be numerous things causing this. I know that I sometimes have bowel/digestive problems, but I've been taking plant enzymes for a while before dinner and it seems to relieve any discomfort I have. Perhaps you could even give beano a try? Might not have any effect on what's going on with you,but while you're waiting to see a dr., might be worth a shot. Also, perhaps keep a food log on what you're eating and if you see that you're having more trouble on certain days than others, you could look back to your log and see if there is any correlation.

Good luck - please let us know if it gets any better and what ended up helping/not helping. All the best!

Beano has fish gelatin!

Are you rinsing your beans? Letting them soak, then rinsing, and cooking fully, even skimming off the "foam"? It sounds like you're used to beans, what have been the major changes to your diet?
I also think you should see a docter, just worried they may attribute your problem to being vegan without ruling out other causes. Have you upped your wheat consumption? Maybe added more of a food you could be sensitive too?
A few weeks is enough to be concerned with, though, are you having pains with it?

Thanks for the responses. It really doesn't seem normal to any other veggies I know either. I think a dr. would be my best bet. Other than my ugh...problem...I've been feeling very healthy and have more energy, so it's definitely not a diet I want to get discouraged from

Hey there! I didnt jump into veggie overnight. I gave my self mental process and realistic physical process for at least a couple months before taking the official 'jump'. I have always eaten relatively healthy and inspect my food (my first reaction was food contamination until it went on for weeks) but wheat may very well be a factor. I have allergies to glutton so I stay away from alot of wheat products ( I think its also a mental thing) I do however eat alot of seed and nut products. I guess the only way to tell would talk to a professional dr. thats familiar in veggie diets

Oh, does it really? Glad I use Plant Enzymes instead then. Thanks for pointing that out!

You didn't mention anything about dairy, but that might be something to take a look at. Often newer vegetarians eat more dairy than they did previously. My experience has been been that increasing dairy increases intestinal ... issues.

Taking a couple "activated charcoal" pills will usually help with digestive issues. You can find it in vitamin sections of stores or on-line, and it's pretty inexpensive.

If you search for "vegan beano" on the net, you'll find there is a veg*n version of those enzymes that you can buy at Amazon or elsewhere.
