You might have that option but don't know it yet. Nearby at an Asian grocery store, they have deep fried tofu in the freezer section. They have two kinds: a name brand in packaging and one that is made locally and sold in styrofoam takeout containers.

So check out your Asian grocery stores. They might have it.

Hey thanks! I totally forgot about that so thanks for putting that back into my mind. Back when I was an omni and was looking for a particular meat I found out that we actually have two Asian grocers in our little country city, but I never got around to going. Going to visit them tomorrow, thanks!

Do you freeze the tofu before making this? I want to try this but I'm not sure if freezing would have a better texture or not.

Yes. Freeze, (I just toss the whole unopened container into the freezer), thaw, drain and press. The block will be flatter and dry, which gives it a more meaty texture and helps it to fry quicker.

Okay, great, I'll have to do this with my next package! The first time I had tofu was at a restaurant and it always had such a great texture, much better than any tofu I tried to cook; I think they might have frozen their tofu.

I don't like the egg-like texture that dumping it in gives. :)

I never had issues, either, but it is definitely worth it to try freezing it. It is indescribable.
