Help! The past week or so I haven't been able to stop snacking. I'm not even PMSing or anything (thats when I normally snack).

I'll give you an example: today for breakfast I ate recess peanut butter cups. A lot of them.....

For lunch I ate chips (and a subway veggie delight)

and now, those twix bars are looking mighty good. Oh yeah, add a couple of diet pepsis to the list too.

How do you guys make this stop?

Uhm, eat real food instead? If you're having massive snack attacks, your body is probably drained. Eat some hearty, healthy stuff to re-fuel

Make a good solid breakfast that fills you up so you don't crave Reece's..

Grab an apple if you don't want to eat the Twix.

Either, A: You need food, so the apple will be good or B: You don't need food, your body will be turned off by the apple and realize it's only craving the chocolate..

Or, you could give in. A good chocolate and crud filled day never hurt anyone.

Charity, I thought you are going to suggest poptarts

Captain, I found that when I crave PB cups I was actually in need of real peanuts. Have you tried peanuts stuffed dates? Not that it's any lower in calories but at least it can be labeled as "healthy food" . BTW, I remember you said you only eat 1300 cal a day so I am sort of thrilled to see you eat up!

I guess thats a good point. Eating peanuts would be better than eating PB cups.

Yes, I upped my cals, but eating junk wasn't my idea of the way to do it. I just can't help myself. hehe.

Maybe you are stressed? I've been eating like that a lot lately, too. I know it is out of stress and needing comfort foods.

I bet that since you were eating so little, your body is deprived and, with one taste of caloric junk food, it is shouting for you to feed it! Try increasing your overall caloric intake, and eating more fake junk....ie., healthy cookies, muffins, nut bars, ect.

I am stressed for finals!!!! And I HAVE to chew on something if I am stressed.

Sunflower seeds are great for stress-induced snacking b/c it takes lots work to eat but doesn't really have much cals.

This is what I do to prevent junkie snacking sometimes: tell myself that I can have that cookie/those poptarts/those evil mini twix bars after I have had breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Then, I get in lots of good food before the junk, so there is not much room left for the junk (if I even still want it). Of course, sometimes I am too weak to resist those yummy treats all day...muahahahahahaha

When you want to snack try eating dried fruit such as dates cranberries, apples, or bananas. They are sweet and taste good. Trail mix works are well.

I love poptarts, too. But be careful, the frosting has gelatin.

This is what you do. when you want a snack really bad throw it away so you cant eat it!! Or stop buying them from the store. Then if you never have snacks in your house it will be okay the once in a while you get it from a vending machine or somewhere because thats not often.

Actually, thats what I did....

I threw most of the bag of the mini PB Cups out as well as the bag of chips.

I also went out and bought sunflower seeds and dried fruit. Thats all seemed to help because I haven't had the 'snacking' problem today.

I have been eating too much lately as well....is it something about spring?!?!?!!? Today I had a banana, some cheerios, and a little PB for breakfast, and for lunch I had a soft pretzel, a muffin, some tater chips, and a fruity drinkie thing. WHATS WRONG WITH ME?! lol. Hopefully my appetite will diminish when summer comes and it gets hot.

dk_art, maybe i should take your suggestion and just duct tape my mouth up! i've been such a pig lately! i don't know if it's exam stress (stressed cos i am far from prepared) or something else. i have a confession - i DID finish my whole 250g pack of cashew nuts sitting here reading the forum earlier!!!! *gulp* i tend to lose track when i eat while reading online....i feel soooo guilty! to make matters worse, i have the worst digestive system in the world, as far as i know! seriously, i get sick with everything. in fact, vegan / vege diet does me good cos it is gentler on me. yes, i got sick with the nuts earlier. i guess anyone would. i felt like throwing up. i used to be anorexic, what if i become bulimic now?

That's a lot of nuts I think ... I like cashews too

It sounds like your eating them as a habit or as something to occupy yourself. Maybe you could switch to carrots. It's a known fact that it takes a lot of chewing and crunching to get down even one carrot (try it, time yourself ... it took me *4 minutes and 22 seconds* to eat a raw peeled carrot 7" long x 3/4" in diameter eating at a normal but continuous pace ). Therefore it may take longer to eat several carrots than all those nuts.

Thanks for the brilliant tip, dk!! You would think any fool would have thought of that, but this fool didn't!! I will try that next time when I really need to chew. Thankfully, I do not eat cashews or any other nuts very often, only once in a blue moon. *phew*
