I find it quite annoying when people say they admire vegans because they'd never be able to do it themselves, yet they've never even thought about trying to at least cut down on the amount of animal products they eat. It's basically like they're saying "I would be a vegan if I actually cared about animals or the world". Obviously you can't expect someone to completely 100% just stop eating animal products at the click of a finger, but it seems to me like most people are too selfish to even consider easing off their meat/egg/milk intake just because they think chocolate or pizza is too good to give up. A friend of mine I'm talking to right now on msn even admitted that she doesn't really care about the way the fast food industry treats animals:<br><br><div class="quote-container"><span>Quote:</span>

It's like some people actually find it FUNNY that they don't care which makes me wonder what goes on in their minds.

The average person thinks they're so damn special and exempt 'cause a former boyfriend was mean, or daddy wasn't home enough, or they have small breasts or a small penis, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

small penis isn't usually the good kind of special in most people's eyes though lol

I just tell people that admire vegans that it's easy to be vegan and they should become one too. Then I go on to talk about how how convenient it is, delicious, etc, etc. If they seem at all interested then they're still a possible convert if not then I just try to ignore their apathy. There are too many people in the world like that to worry about them, it's better to focus on the potential veg*ns.

Show her this, chicken mcnuggets in production. It doesn't even look like food, or any part of a chicken. If she still says she'll eat them, then that's sad.<br><img alt="" src="http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l9hc319GNU1qar86bo1_500.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br>
As for ceasing to eat animal products at the snap of a finger, I did, and I am convinced others can too. People are just too lazy, and they like the snug feeling of the rose coloured glasses.

Ha! I hadn't seen that picture before. That's pretty funny (in a very, very sad way).

While I'm sure some people who say they admire vegans might really not care and never try to change, I think when most people say it it shows they DO care and they do think about it they just feel weak or like they don't have the discipline or whatever.<br><br>
When I was a kid I admired vegetarians but thought it looked too hard at first, and then later as a vegetarian I admired vegans but thought cheese was too good and it would be too hard and all the usual things people think. Then I got a lot of support from friends in real life and on Veggieboards and I got all sorts of tips that showed me how easy it is and I've been vegan now for roughly a couple years with no signs of ever going back.<br><br>
Your friend in that quote mentioned getting free range eggs and seemed pretty guilty and embarrassed with the "I'm a terrible person" line. To me that says she DOES care otherwise she wouldn't have said any of that and wouldn't bother to pay more for eggs at all. Maybe she needs more encouragement rather than judgement? Share some recipes and food ideas, if she loves chicken nuggets so much I highly recommend getting her to try Gardein seven grain crispy tenders, they are amazing.<br><br>
As a vegan you are a living breathing example that it isn't too hard and she could still have fun and enjoy delicious food while being more compassionate, so take advantage of that <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/grin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":D">

This is how I feel about it, too. When people say they admire vegans, I take that at face value and as a nice thing to say. It's better than them saying vegans are freaks <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=""><br><br>
And EWWWWWW to that chicken mcnugget picture! Even as an omnivore, I thought those were gross.

I have a friend who has on her facebook page as a "fun fact" about her "-if i really wanted to be i could be a vegetarian". She's a really nice and good person otherwise, and I'm not sure why she put that but I don't think she meant it to be mean, but from a veg point of view it sounds really mean, like she doesn't care about animals enough to be a vegetarian.

Well yeah, it is a nice thing to say as opposed to being insulted about it, but I just feel a lot of the time it's their cover up to say that they don't care in hope that you won't take the conversation any further. She did actually say before that, that being vegan is silly, too long etc. and told me to just be vegetarian instead (and she's not the first person to say that lol).

I was one of those people in a conversation.<br><br>
I was alone with a co-worker. The co-worker brought in a cake. A customer walked in, and we offered her a slice of cake. She said "No, I'm vegan." To which I replied "Wow! THAT is so awesome!!! Good for you! I wish more people were vegan!"<br><br>
And then I sat there and ate my cake while she and I discussed business.<br><br>
Looking back, I feel really stupid! I wish I would bump into that woman one day so I could tell her so!

Yeah, I feel really ignorant for asking people why they were vegetarian in the past, then continuing to eat my chicken burger. It's because we're brought up to think nothing of the way we get our meat. People know animals are killed in mass numbers on a daily basis but simply don't care, and I'm just glad I'm not that ignorant any more.

I used to be like this. :p I now find it amusing that (some!) people think that some people must be naturally 'able' to go vegan (thus 'I could never do it!').<br><br>
But then again, I'm not militant about my lifestyle. I don't expect people to care.

when people say "I admire it but I could never do it" to me it feels like their being fake. Kind of like when people say about children's pictures "Ohhh its beautiful I'll put it on the fridge".
