Hi,

Ok, now I know some people have issues and don't like Hydroxycut, Ma Huang etc.. Well, that's not what I want to talk about if in fact that's how anyone was going to respond. So please don't.

My question is, that since I became vegan I'm having a hard time finding an alternative to hydroxycut that is vegan and gives me the same benefits. I don't care about the appetite suppression it supposedly gives you. I dig the energy boost and bronchial dialation. I love to wake up in the morning, pop 3 Hydroxycut and just go for a run.

But now I run with no Hydroxycut. It has gelatin in the capsules. I could always empty the capsule and not eat the gelatin shell, but I'd rather give the business to a brand that doesn't use the gelatin at all.

So please help me,

and thanks,

Out of curiosity, why are you using Hydroxycut? I ask this because you said that you run.

It opens up my lungs and gives me a bit more energy to work harder. When I lift or otherwise strength train I feel I push out more reps and it gives me a buzz.

But I don't use it anymore, but I'd like a vegan alternative.

i would still advise against using fatburners, but if you are going to use them, try looking at eas products you can get them at gnc or walmart. when i used them they were tablets and much, much cheaper than hydroxycut

Basically what is giving you that "energy" are stimulants in the form of ephedra, guarana and caffeine (I believe they've stopped using ephedra, but you mentioned it opened your lungs, so I suspect you were taking the old formula). You can purchase all three of those in non-gelatin capsules.

it can be dangerous if one is foolish with it.

but that's the case for so many things that it's unfair to single out such products which have helped many RESPONSIBLE, right minded adults to work out more efficiently and get the results they want a little faster.

I like it.

hrmmm, kinda sounds like a lot of the drugs out there. some poeple use psychadelics responsibly but the rest abuse them, and what happens. no one can use them legaly.

You know - I took Mah Huang products for years. Yes, they work. But you know what? After a while, I had to take more and more of them, and I was tired all of the time. I didn't sleep well at night, but I was just pooped. I took them to lose weight, to feel peppy and to blast through my workouts. I now realized how addicted I was to them.

You are kidding yourself if you think that you just like them. You are, most likely, addicted to them. How do you tell? Stop taking them for a day or two. The first thing that will happen is that you will get pounding headaches. That is withdrawl from the Kona Nut and other caffein sources. If you take Excederine, or another analgesic with caffein in it, it will help. Second, you will start to feel like all you want to do is to sleep. That is because you have been depriving yourself of truly good sleep for as long as you have been taking the suppliments. Finally, you will want to eat again.

This is the hard part - you WILL put back on the weight that you lost. If you lost weight, it isn't real.

I hope that you will stay away from all ephedrine and ephedrine type products. They are VERY dangerous. They can kill you at the worst, or make you rather physchotic at the least. Many people really respect Dr. Weil. Please note what he has to say about these products:

"...Ephedra (ma huang): The active chemical in ma huang is ephedrine, which can be dangerous when combined with other stimulants or included in weight-loss products. There's also a risk of addiction and heart arryhthmias, and a virtual guarantee of regaining every pound youve lost once you stop taking this stimulant.

Unfortunately, I know of no safe and effective dietary supplement or shortcut for losing weight. Be safe and sensible: Eat less and exercise more. It works every time."

Good Luck.

EquiPro if that little rant was directed at me, then you obviously didn't understand any of my posts. I don't want to lose weight, I like the boosts to my workouts. Also, if anyone looking to use a product like hydroxycut, whether or not it contains an ephedrine, should cycle it 2 days on and 1 day off not counting non workout days where you shouldn't take it at all. Well that's my opinion anyway because I can see someone getting stupid with these kinds of products.

BE RESPONSIBLE.

But I still need a vegan alternative to hydroxycut

Hey, I wasn't ranting. I was a professional athlete and work out all of the time. I still don't think that Mah Huang products are safe AND they are addictive. Also, it is very dangerous (and I did it for years) to take these suppliments before you work out. They DO elevate your blood pressure. It scares me that they could cause you to have a stroke or worse. Personally, I have come to the conclusion that, if you need somethin like that to power up your workouts, you're either over training, not getting enough sleep, or not eating well. If your body is tired, or not able to perform as you would wish w/o supplimentation, then I believe (finally) that it is better to listen to your body.

I believe dexatrim is vegan (at least no gelatine capsule) but it does not contain ephedra, if that's what you are looking for. You can try taking B-50 complex instead of the other pills, even though it is still a pill, I would assume it's much healthier than all the (potentially) dangerous drugs in pills like hydroxycut.

Just FYI - from Dr. Weil's site today:

EPHEDRA SALES BANNED IN ILLINOIS

Illinois has become the first state to ban sales of ephedra, the diet supplement linked to 120 deaths nationwide including that of Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect Steve Bechler and a 16-year-old from Lincoln, IL who took the supplement in an attempt to make his high school's first-string football team. Attempts to remove ephedra from the market appear to be accelerating. Florida has restricted sales of the supplement to those over the age of 18, the American Heart Association has urged a ban and the National Football League, the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the International Olympic Committee have barred its use by athletes. In addition, General Nutrition Centers recently announced that it will stop selling products containing ephedra.

http://drweil.com
