Hi everyone.

I wasn't too sure where to post this. I am looking to move to Canada, probably British Columbia in the next couple of years but I don't want to be somewhere where there is lots of hunting going on but yet I want to be close to wildlife. I heard that in Whistler BC they don't allow bears to be hunted. Does anyone know if that is true? Any help would be much appreciated as I just cannot stand the thought of being close to hunting.

Also... Does anyone know of any US states where it is banned?

Many thanks in advance!

Most retail stores have the Hunting and Trapping regulations for your area available at no charge. It will tell you as well what areas have hunting bans in effect. or go to wlapwww.gov.bc.ca for more information, I am sure you could link off here to other areas in Canada. For the USA I do not know.

Hunting is legal in every US state. There are often variances in which species may be hunted (for example, some states allow bear hunting and some do not), and how they may be hunted (ex. some states allow setting out bait to attract hunted animals and some do not).

In the US, there are certain "seasons" in which many species may be hunted. A person has to buy a hunting license and wait until deer season if they want to kill a deer. If they hunt deer out-of-season, it is illegal. Other species have no special seasons. In many states, animals such as coyotes and opossums may be legally hunted year round.

So although hunting regulations and the number of people who hunt may vary greatly from state to state, there is no US state where sport hunting has been totally abolished.

Hope this helps.

Some US states also have several seasons for hunting, depending on what type of weapon is used. For example, in Tennessee, for hunting deer, there is a "bow" season (for hunting with a bow and arrow), a "musket" season (not sure of the exact name) (for hunting with a muzzle-loading firearm), and a regular season (for hunting with modern weapons).

Thanks so much for all your responses. It sure makes depressing reading though.

Don't you just wish that we could all buy a state and live there. These hunters... make me sick

Hi everyone! I haven't posted much in a while but do read here often. I am still looking to go to Canada and still don't know where to live (if) and when I get my visa through. It is tough as I love the mountains but don't want to be near hunting plus I want to be around good vegan/vegetarian restaurants which I guess means a city.

I must say that I am finding it harder and harder being around people that eat meat etc. I am sure I am not alone in feeling that way.

Where about do you want to live in Canada? I'm from Canada myself (Quebec) and helped a few friends to immigrate there. I'm right now in the UK (Scotland) but I simply can't wait to go back home. If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

One time I saw a man SKINNING a deer in his garage from our car.

I yelled "You fowl murderer! Taking a beautiful animal from its home!! Stop this madness!"

I was pissed >_> Makes me sick that people can eat meat, but actually killing the animal yourself while it lives free and mutilating it?? That's just disturbing and sick.
