Okay, I am full of hormones I'm not used to, as I just found out I am expecting. Due right before Thanksgiving. I haven't told my relatives yet, gonna wait a month, but since I get to know you all everyday, I feel it's safe to share the news.

Watching the news these days can get pretty depressing. This week the thought crossed my mind to take a hiatus from surfing the web and watching the news. This meant taking a break from all the forums I visit.

This afternoon, I log into most of the different forums I visit, and most up them uplifted me in some way. I got a few nice Private Messages, and on other boards, a few nice posts, and it feels so good to get this kind of community friendliness and support. I am glad that I have this opportunity to correspond with such people according to my own interests and hobbies. So the people whose posts I read online, the interesting and fun things I learn (gnome darts!!!), do a good job in helping me see the humanity in the world.

Like I said with my emotions out of control, I feel like today I can get away with a forum hug.

Does anyone know if there is a modern verison of "A child is born"? I loved the pictures in that book as a child. It demonstrates all the emotions of the mother, father (and eventually baby) throughout the process. Beautiful.

How nice!

My advice...don't gain too much weight and use a good cream to prevent stretch marks. Also, sleep whenever you feel tired...

Congratulations!

well, in contradiction to mushroom, my advice is, don't worry too much about weight gain. unless it seems like you are obviously putting on a LOT of weight VERY QUICKLY, don't even worry about stepping on the scale. in both the UK and Canada they have stopped routinely weighing pregnant women because studies found that it had no effect whatsoever on the outcome of the pregnancy and birth, and more often than not just caused unneccessary anxiety in the mother. the only things you have to watch out for are really rapid weight gain (this can be a symptom of gestational diabetes), or very little-to-no weight gain (which can affect the baby's birthweight).

instead of weight, focus on making sure you eat a wide variety of nutritious foods! when i finally got over all my morning sickness i made a habit of having a beautiful morning smoothy each day when i got up. soy milk, frozen bananas, frozen berries, flax seed oil, wheat germ, maple syrup and a dash of molasses for extra iron.

remember to get all the calories you need, and a prenatal vitamin can't hurt.

as for stretchmarks, there have been no proven methods of preventing them. they in fact appear to be more genetic than anything else. i got stretch marks across my belly with both my babies, and i am proud of them. i call them my "tiger stripes". they are like my battlescars, that remind me of how awesome my body is and how amazing my pregnancies and births were. plus, after time, they fade to a lovely silvery-white colour.

oh yeah. AND SLEEP. SLEEP AS MUCH AS IS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. with both my pregnancies i found myself feeling very tired very frequently. don't deny yourself any rest you can get, even if there are other things you think you should be doing. believe me, when the baby arrives, you will look back on your naps with great fondness and longing.
