i've got a fun little game for us. well, for me anyway. i'm pretty certain i work at the library with the most pathetic collection in the world. the librarian wouldn't know a good book if you beat her with one (trust me i've tried this!). you asked me if we have it and i'll check and see then tell you "no, 'cause we suck". thanks. finally, something productive to do at work.

Why I am not a Christian by Bertrand Russell and if you don't mind Running With Scissors - can't remember the author. Thanks.

Remember, a library is only as good as the community that supports it.

Donate your old books to the library. If they don't have a book you want--buy it and donate it!

Books don't appear by magic in libraries--they depend on the community around them.

We have nothing by Tim Robbins or Richard Bach, 'cause we suck.

FertiVegork, i completely agree. i find approximately one good book a year in this place. the librarian was recently sick and so i order a bunch of classics. the place didn't even have something as rudimentary as "Lord of the Flies". this place is such a joke and no one laughing. except me somethings. it's either laugh or cry!!

no Bertrand Russell, no running with scissors....

gruntled sheep: this is a library with a population of 6,500 and a book budget of $22,000. surely we could have SOMETHING on the shelves besides Danielle Steel. But please still donate, and visit and loan our books. thanks.

heh, well obviously it seems that Danielle Steel fans are the ones taking the initiative to donate books.

Why not make a suggestion to your librarian? Come up with a list of books you would like to see and give it to them.

I always liked The Color Purple. Maybe I'm not thinking of the same book though. I think it tells a wonderful story of how a woman put through hell most of her life is still able to make a good life of her own in the end.

I have to say I agree with Gruntled Sheep, here. If you don't tell your librarian what books you want to see, the library will never have it. Donating books helps a lot, too. Some libraries have a much smaller budget, so money donations help, too.

Demons-John Shirley

Anything by Douglas Adams

Tipping the Velvet-Sarah Waters

Anything by Tom Robbins (actually check on this: every library I've ever gone into ALWAYS has a copy of Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates, but they never have one that I haven't read yet, like Even Cowgirls Get the Blues. So check and see if they have Fierce Invalids. I want to see if this is some kind of weird Library Rule)

Hee, I love that book too-I have my own copy. Which is why it bugs me that every library I've gone to always has a copy of that book, and ONLY that book. I've already read it 10 times!

I think its a library conspiracy.

If all the books are donated, who says the books were from fans?
