I'm looking into buying some flax seed oil capsules for the fatty acids. They come in a million different concentrations and some say to take up to like 6 capsules daily. Does anyone have any recommendation for how many mg to take and how often?

i have heard/ read from (what i consider) reliable sources: up to 2grams daily! i know that sounds like a lot, but it seems, the more the better.

I read you should take at least 1 Tablespoon of flaxseed oil for benefits, but capsules are different. You have to take 3 to 6 capsules a day, depending on the brand. That is the reason I like flaxseed oil. It is simplier and cheaper.

It would depend on your intake of omega-6. It's the omega-3 to omega-6 ratio that really counts, not just the amount of one or the other. You also want to be careful you aren't getting too much omega-3, so whatever you take, make sure you don't overdo it.

Well then, this is as clear as tar

Thing is, I'm not going to a) take tons of capsules a day, just won't happen, b) have something to eat with flax oil every day. Sources I've read say you need to take like 14 capsules a day. That's absolutely insane!

Flax seeds don't go rancid as quickly as flax seed oil does. Buy it in small amounts in a dark container and store it in the fridge.

Walnuts and canola oil are good for omega-3 too (aren't they?)

Maybe the best thing to do is to try to have a tablespoon of ground flax with cereal, and then incorporate either walnuts/walnut oil/canola oil/more ground flax into some other part of your day? This is what I try to do, although I don't always manage it.

The supplements guy at the co-op told me that I would need tons of ground flax seeds in order to get enough oil out of them daily to get the right fatty acids. I actually do own some flax seeds, but my minicuisinart won't grind them, and I don't own a coffee grider (nor do I have much $ right now to buy one).
