I totally respect Jehovas Witnesses and I think it sounds much more logical than for example scientology, and actually I think it sounds as logical as christianity.

How is that any different than believing you are psychic or can tell the future using mass produced tarot cards...and don't forget believing that inert flowers have healing powers. C'mon, everyone has their beliefs that may seem odd to others. You of all people should be able to relate Diana.

It is amazing how members of one group whose beliefs differ greatly from the mainstream (vegans) can scramble so much to discredit the beliefs of another group whose beliefs differ from the mainstream.

Yes, it is off-topic, I agree.

A split-off to a new thread could be made by the moderators if they so wish.

maybe you should start a new thread. I would love to hear why your beliefs are any less bizarre. Or maybe you see your practices as illogical too.

As a Chrisitian, I can tell you that Christianity is not supposed to be logical. It's all about Who we believe God is, what He can do, and our relationship with Him.

I think the poster that you replied to was saying is that Jehovah's Witnesses seem to have a much more logical approach than most other Christian religions. The approach, from what I've seen, is very intended. The Bible is studied meticulously, as a lawyer would study law, and they have a very well-developed set of apologetics. I think that's all the other poster was saying.

I reckon that some people would find not believing in a god bizarre. Unless they are buddhists perhaps. I think buddhists do not believe in god?

I do not care to start a thread on this. I don't see the point. But I agree with Oregon Amy that my post was off-topic which is why I suggested to the mods that they could do a split-off if they wanted to.

Generally no, they do not.

Quote:

First of all amy didn't use the words off-topic, she said inappropriate and I suspect her intent was not the convenient one you are seeking out here (sorry if i'm wrong amy). Tho it would be nice if you (for once) held yourself accountable for the hypocritical and rude comments you make but I wont hold my breath...I have to scadattle any way.

I don't think there's one religion that could be described as "logical." Faith is beyond logic, no? Whether you find this to be a good thing or not depends on how much you value logic.

Depends on what you mean by 'logical'. Are religious people's belief systems contradictory? I don't think they are by necessity.

no, gaya, you're right. I felt that since someone had just said in the thread that they didn't feel welcome because of comments made in a thread that was not intended to question or justify beliefs, that it was inappropriate to do so.

However, now all bets are off.

I will come back to this thread when I finish my research.

I am looking for logical argumentation for religion. Whatever religion that may be.

The right answer is out there. I am going to find it.

People believe a whole mess of illogical things (hello homeopathy!). I suppose one could argue that it's logical that humans would seek an explanation outside of themselves for phenomena they don't understand. Besides, no one operates on pure logic all the time.

My only problem with religion is when people use it as an excuse to start killing each other. Of course, if it wasn't religion it would be skin color, or tribal affiliation or some other arbitrary divider.

What I said in my first post that was a split-off was that it is not logical to believe in a Virgin Birth, Resurrection after dying on a cross, Turning Water into Wine.

Why is this so surprising to people? Does it sound LOGICAL to you???

(I did not pass JUDGEMENT on Logic. That is a Philosophical Discussion which I would certainly not bother to get into on VeggieBoards. That would be a perfect waste of my time. What I was saying is that Christian beliefs are not logical. And if someone here truly believes in a Virgin Birth, then excuse me while I laugh my head off.)

I think the notion of 'logical' is very ambiguous and unclear. How about 'rational' or 'epistemically well-founded'?
