my mom swears i am a vegetarian because i watched charolettes web a few too many times ..<br><br><br><br>
yes, that was a favorite movie of my youth by i distinctly remember the first time i freaked out over meat and it was prior to that movie .. i think in part i liked that movie so much because they were able to save the pig from being eaten ..<br><br><br><br>
so i watch the cartoons .. i know they aren't real, but then i am like "look at those sharks .. they don't eat fish .. how can you??" then my husband gives me that look as if to say "i have always known you were crazy .. thanks for further confirmation"<br><br><br><br>
then i watched the cartoon madagascar .. i really liked it, but at the end was dissapointed because while it wasn't okay for him to eat "steak" it was okay for him to eat sushi ..<br><br><br><br>
i suppose this could go to the debate of do vegetarians eat fish like in the veg forum, but i was just upset .. what is the rule .. if your not friends with them you can eat them??<br><br><br><br>
does anyone else relate to this or is my husband correct and i am completely insane?!

Disney has affected me by forcing their monoculture on the space I live in.<br><br><br><br>
They have affected me by lobbying harsher copyright, patent, trademark laws. The will go as far as to strip my rights to ensure they continue raking in the dough. They have backed things such as the DMCA.

I don't know about Disney in particular, but I definately think what I watched as I child affected my veg*nism. When I look back at my favorite movies growing up (Charlotte's Web, The Secret of Nihm, The Plague Dogs, Dot and the Bunny and Dot and the Kangaroo) I think no wonder I am vegan. But then again, my brothers watched the same movies and didn't like them, one is even a butcher now. So I think it depends on the person. It has to be in you I think. The movies just nudged me along early, but there has definately been times in my life where if I wasn't already vegan, I would have become so.

Lelena - I love Dot and the Red Kangaroo!! I still have a book of that story with all the Disney characters as illustrations. I loved it because it had Australian animals in it, which I could relate to better.<br><br><br><br>
When I was at school, we studied King Lear - if anyone has seen it you will know it has the most depressing ending ever. A friend of mine wrote an essay about how being brought up on Disney gave her the expectation that every story would have a happy ending, and how she was therefore completely surprised that King Lear had such a depressing ending. I think she might have a point.

I don't know. I've always loved some of the older disney movies. Mary Poppins, Little Mermaid, Lion King, Aladdin, The Ugly Dachshund, those all bring back super good memories from when my cousins and I were little and got along.<br><br><br><br>
I don't recall if Free Willy was disney, but right after I watched it, I used my saved money to adopt a whale for a year. I was like 11. His name was J-6 Ralph. I'm fairly sure everyone else got his picture, too. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/sad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=""> A nice glossy 8x10.

i must have been a weird, unusual, abnormal child, but disney held no lure or interest to me whatsoever. still doesn't. not the cartoons, not the animated movies, not the movies with actual actors in them. i think i sat through maybe a quarter of bedknobs and broomsticks, once, on a rainy sunday lunchtime.<br><br><br><br>
yeah, i think i <i>must</i> have been an odd child- i didn't want to watch tv really, especially disney, i wanted to collect ladybirds (ladybugs for the americans) pick watersnails out of the garden pond to examine them, annoy the dippy family dog (springer spaniel) by trying to sit on its back and ride it like a pony, make sandals out of paper and run up and down the lawn and see how long they took to break, pretend to be a lion, build a den under the kitchen table with blankets, dress my little brother up as a viking girl with my mums braided tights on his head ...yeah, he reeaaalllly liked that (not!), make huge blackberry and apple pies with my dad, go swimming, and do other interesting stuff.<br><br><br><br>
how could watching disney compete with that kind of cool stuff?

Most of mine and my bff's inside jokes are about Disney movies. We used to get on the phone together and play the same movie at the same time, it was awesome! Some of my favorite songs are Disney songs! And for birthday and christmas every year my granny would get me a Disney music box!<br><br>

I never liked Disney, or that kind of cartoon, and I hate what they did to Winnie the Pooh. The original drawings are so beautiful, and Disney massacred them; Disney's seem to be better known now than the originals.<br><br><br><br>
