Im curious how far the average drive to work is for people.

if you use the bus, estimate your distance and how long it takes you from the time you walk out of your door and into the door at your office.

(Im thinking Im way over the average but I cant quit and I cant move right now and there is no public transportation where I live.)

As an afterthought, it would have been interesting to see which country people lived in too.

32 miles each way. It used to be 9, then I moved to another city. It sucks, but I'm hoping to have my own place within 5 miles of work by January.

I walk to work. It's 2.6 kilometres and it takes me 33 minutes (one way).

Just a snails hair over 3mph.... about the same as me when I hit the back ups on the Washington Beltway.

Sadly, public transportation here is a joke and not doable, even if I was closer. It's mind boggling to even think that some cities have an effective system As for walking, not safe, even if I was a mile away or less. Sometimes I don't get off work until 2am. I wish I didn't have to spend so much on gas.

It take about as long to walk as it would to take the bus, so I choose the cheaper, healthier and more environmentally friendly way to commute. It's a bit difficult when the temperature dips below -40 C, but then I might make an exception and use public transport.

I live about 11 miles one way from my work which really isn't too bad. It generally takes 15 to 20 minutes depending on the lights and traffic and which route you want to take. If I didn't hate I-4 so much, that is the quickest route. With school starting the time may vary depending on my schedule... getting stuck behind a school bus sucks.
I live in central Florida, USA.

I live in a staff flat attached to the hotel that I work in. It takes 30 seconds to walk to work! Makes me feel quite smug, especially since petrol is £1.35 a litre now! Plus there's serious rent control!

My new job is around 6 miles away from my home. I live in the US.

My last job was 16 miles away, took me 25 minutes to get there, and I felt like I was single-handedly murdering the planet.

10.8 miles round trip and less than 34 minutes round trip when traffic isn't an issue to get to my office. It would take over an hour if I walked and took public transportation, which isn't available on some of the days I work.
