I'm 112 and 5'5". Before anyone says anything, yes, I know I'm a healthy weight. I still think I'd look better if I were more toned, because I have a lot of excess fat, and I'm wondering if anyone follows a specific exercise program they think would be good for me. I don't get any exercise right now, but it's summer, so I'm starting! Would weight lifting be good, pilates, yoga...???

They are all good for different things. Weight lifting builds muscle, burns fat, and trims you down. Pilates and yoga keep you limber and don't build you, but build endurance and flexability... etc., Crosstraining-- doing one thing for a while than switching and doing another seems to work well. Paring up your exersises like do weightlifting, then swimming on alternate days then Yoga and running on the other days seems to work and keep you interested in what you are doing.

PIlates is excellent for toning, strength, lengthening and mind-body connection. It also helps with balance, coordination and flexibility. I'd reccomend looking for a class at a local rec center or fitnes club (if it's not too expensive). Many dance studios also offer pilates. Alternate it with cardio several times a week and you're all set.
