I'm curious as to whether your area has vegetarian restaurants.

We live in Roanoke, Virginia where there the only truly all vegan restaurant went out of business. I keep hoping we'll get a Whole Foods grocery store which has a hot and cold bar with lots of vegetarian items. But, so far, they've shown no interest in coming to our area.

Fortunately, many of the chain restaurants are now serving more vegetable side dishes such as broccolli which makes it a bit easier. I'd love to live in an area like Seattle, San Francisco etc where vegetarian restaurants are more abundant. What's it like in your area?

well, in my area we have a health food shop that also has a cafe area which sells sandwiches, pasties, cakes, etc, with a large amount of them vegan and all of them vegetarian. It's nice, but only open normal shop opening hours and it's not really a restaurant in any way.

We also have a vegetarian cafe which acts as a restaraunt 3 nights a week which I have never been to but would like to.

None that are specifically vegetarian. If I want vegan food I pretty much have to settle for spaghetti. (Not a big fan of tomato sauce.) I'm told that here are some good restaurants about an hours drive from here.

Me too. I mean there are things like thai food and some mexican food places which have vegetarian friendly stuff, but there are not any vegetarian restaurants, or even restaurants which have healthy food. You can modify salads and stuff to make them vegetarian, but they usually arent that good and not real vegetarian meals (with protien and stuff). Its frustrating, Id like a good vegetarian place..not that Id have anyone to eat there with.

I tend to find veggie friendly stuff in most restaurants (although it becomes increasingly difficult if we end up going to the meat and wine co.). I have seen a chain of shops in shopping centres at the food courts called yum ba which advertise themselves as vegeterian, and, true to their word, there is a lack of meat.

There are no 100% vegetarian restaurants here, but one is opening next month.

We do have a Whole Foods, a couple primarily veg places and several veggie friendly ethnic restaurants. A lot of people don't really understand what vegan is, and even our whole foods is lacking vegan bakery items, but it could be a lot worse. Austin is only an hour or so away and has tons of amazing veg*n restaurants.

We have a couple of veggie restaurants in Calgary.

The coup is hands down the best in the city. It's a small, funky restaurant with fantastic locallly grown, organic foods. Really reasonable prices too!

There are a couple other ones - a chinease veggie place called Buddah's veggie restaurant, it's pretty good- lot's of mock meats if you're into that. Then there's the sunflower cafe- it's buffet style in a HFS. Great if you want tasty, healthy and fast. There's also a sort of 'dive' east indian place that is exclusively veg- great food though. I think they're a thai place too.

We also have tons of really veggie and vegan friendly restaurants.

Open Sesame is the one that really pops into mind. It's a pan asian restaurant with amazing decor and ambiance. They have a 'market garden' where you walk through and pick out your own stir fry stuff. There is tofu, chickpeas, and tons of nuts and seedsright on the buffet- and then you order it with rice or noodles.

Oh- and chocolate spring rolls for desert are to die for!
