Around 15 percent of American girls are going through puberty by the age of seven, research has revealed.
Doctors dont know why girls are maturing so faster although there are a variety of theories.
I can't believe that they didn't even mention the hormones in MILK or MEAT ARGHSKDJFKELK!?!?!?!? People in the comments seem to have the right idea though.

Well, it doesn't surprise me. Although there's no real proof that the hormones in meat and milk cause early puberty and menstruation, I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. My niece got her period at the age of NINE, and we all thought this was shocking, but I know for a fact that my brother and his wife are die-hard carnivores and have fed their daughter a diet heavy in meat and milk right from the start.

She said that girls who develop rapidly suffer from lower self-esteem and tend to be more promiscuous.
I take issue with the above statement. There is no proof of this. My aforementioned niece developed rapidly, and she doesn't have low self esteem and is not promiscuous. I know this is only anecdotal, but I still believe the above statement is erroneous.

I totally agree with you.

I also have issues with this statement :

{Gynaecologist Dr Michelle Tham, based in New York, told MyFoxDC that there were a number of possible causes for early puberty including obesity.}

All the young girls I know of that started puberty early were far from obese. They were average if not underweight.

I think there my be some low self esteem if they are the only ones around their group developing so early. i got my boobs at 8 and was very uncomfortable about them, since nobody else had them. period was bad enough at 14

I can understand that but the promiscuous theory is a bit of stretch.

I'm definitely not surprised by this at all. The fact that young girls are weighing more than your average (say) 7 year old, means they go into puberty at an earlier age.

Last semester, in my bio class, we were talking about this subject. Our professor basically said it's because of a girls' weight. I hit puberty at a young age because I was a little heavier than most of the girls my age at that time. Now, I'm not as heavy but I do see it as girls being able to "carry" a child. Ethically, it's not right but our bodies can't distinguish what's ethically right or wrong. It does what it's biologically meant to do.

With regards to the hormones in meat and milk, that could definitely be a possiblity. As well, as all the additives and preservatives in foods.

My daughter started puberty at age seven. She was and still is very athletic (gymnast), but had a little normal "baby fat". When she started her period at age 9 (lasted three months), the Dr recommended a pediatric gyno. Yes, pediatric gyno's do exist, and the one I took my daughter to explained that she usually has to deal with heartbreaking patients
She put my daughter on bc pills to regulate her hormones and within 6 months, my daughter lost all her baby fat. She also stopped menstrating immeadiatly (started again at age 12) and went back to being a happy go lucky kid. The only thing I could think of was all the hormones she had consumed in milk and meat caused this. I'm now convinced.

So, you would rather put your adolescent girl on birth control pills than letting her have her period at the age of 9?? Was there something wrong with her period before that?

My daughter started her 1st period and it was non stop for three months. I cannot imagine having a period for three months straight, think of how a 9 year old feels. The bc pill was temporary, she only took it for three months. The Dr said it was to regulate her hormones and it did work.

ETA: My daughter was horrified at the idea of taking bc pills. She has never been promiscuous, and she was in every way an innocent little girl back then.

Ah, I'm sorry!!
I re-read your post and had missed the part where you said it was NON-STOP for 3 months....yes I'd call that irregular!! (a similar thing happened to my sister when she was on corticosteroids for her skin) Glad she's doing well now!

Likewise. In addition, this generation of 20 and 30 somethings is 2 inches taller than their parents' generation due to these same hormones.

Girls used to experience menarche when they were about 15 or 16. I do think that the hormones in our food is a big part the problem. Those poor girls, I can't imagine having to deal with my period at that age.

My daughter is fixing to be 7 so this article is pretty unsettling for me. I also think the hormones are part of this.

http://www.longislandpress.com/2010/...-and-our-kids/

^This is a pretty good article about it. Scroll down to "Raging Hormones" section. The problem is with our government, (Clinton, Bush, and Obama all have supported Monsanto and rBGH despite all the warnings), and the fact the American people aren't fired up enough about it. Try liking non-GMO groups on your Facebook page or just telling your friends about it. If enough people get angry, the government will listen. (hopefully :- ) )

Also, there are many videos on Youtube about 2 Fox News reporters who got fired over wanting to expose the rBGH in milk. Check it out if you're interested! It will make you sick.

We read about this in a biology class I took. The hormones in milk are a huge factor, I also read it could be due to childhood obesity, and genetically modified foods.
It's really sad i can't imagine going through that so young

SEVEN?!?!?! Damn. I didn't even know what boobs or the thing in between my legs were at seven.
This could be true though because although I only became a vegetarian about 2 months ago, I never ate meat as a child and I consider myself a late bloomer. Got my period at 13, which was later than most my friends.
