I can't believe my eyes. This fine piece of webistry is brought to you by your friends at the Cattlemen's Beef Board, and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association. I'm sure you all will love to participate in their super-fun poll:

Quote:
What type of beef do you most like to eat with your friends?

Steak

Tacos

Burgers

Subs
My brain hurts, I'm going to sleep.

Cool-2B-Real is about real girls like you!
as opposed to...what? fake girls who don't eat beef? lol

gad, i hate that kind of stuff; it's so freaking insidious, pretending to be all "female positive," but if it was really "female positive" it wouldn't have all those awful pinks and mauves in the colour scheme or all the little "girlified" links to "fun" things that "real girls" like to do.

blah.

That site absolutely sickens me beyond words - implying that girls are only "real" if they eat beef - which they *need* for proper nutrition and engery! Well, that's the impression i got just looking at a couple pages at that place...

But perhaps it's a sign that the beef industry is starting to believe that young girls going veg is becoming a serious threat to their bottom line.. or it's flat out a pathetic attempt to brainwash young girls to make sure they're feeding beef to their own families 15 years later.. ugh!

ObsidianZebra, I think you're absolutely right about the beef industry being threatened by people becoming vegetarian. Hence their continuous emphasis on the word "real" throughout the site. A lot of teenagers don't want to appear strange or different for fear of isolation from their peers, and obviously, "real" girls wouldn't refuse to eat beef! *rolls eyes*

What a crock. I think Kreeli's word "insidious" hit right on the mark.

That is very creepy, insidious is right. All this jabber about "real" is so annoying...Yah, I'm faux!! Yeah, all of us gals here, we are completely fake. I think the typical teen can tell there is nothing fun there though and will run away to some other site. I hope. *shakes head*

Oh man. Yeah, always look for the fine print. The wee little sponsored by thing. Like- kinda- those textbooks sponsored by an oil company telling kids that oil burning is good for the environment and SO is drilling in Alaska! Riiight. Thats why skepticism is a good thing! ~tori

This site reminds me of that http://www.moomilk.com ... it's just so ridiculously absurd its funny, yet at the same time it's just scarey how they're trying to brainwash the young .. Also there's a site out there about pork production for kids, they explain quite a lot about it, except for how the pigs are actually treated on factory farms and how they're slaughtered.

btw, the cow caption contest at the moomilk site is rather fun

"The Bottom Line

Cattlemen are committed to providing the utmost in humane care for their livestock. They view this responsibility as both a moral obligation to the animals and an economic necessity, since animals who are cared for properly perform more effectively as meat producing animals. "

Yeah, right....

"Highlights

Healthy animals are the most productive. "

There are more of these kind of sites.

I saw one that sends information packages to schools (on request).

"You need Iron: x amount iron in meat; eat meat"

They are not lying, just hidding a part of the thruth.

(that part really p*** me off.......grrrr)
