Hi guys

I'm new here and pretty new to vegetarianism as well. I'm looking for advice on some high protein meals (I lift weights).

From my little research I did, I found out that beans, lentils and eggs are all hight protein food items.

Is ther a cookbook that focuses on vegetarian weightlifters?

Thank you

yeah, im a weightlifter also. its pretty difficult. seitan is the best. go buy something called vital wheat gluten, and get some recipes on how to make it. you can substitute it for meat in just about anything and its ridiculously high in protein.

You can make seitan with whole wheat flour, like Snow White said, you just have to rinse and rinse and rinse out the starch. It can be frozen though, so if you were to perfect this technique you could make a LOT of it, and freeze a bunch and use it as needed.

Somewhere must sell vital wheat gluten or seitan quick mix. Have you checked with health food stores? I know there are also UK Veg*n internet shops you might be able to order from.

i've seen seitan mix on the internet but it was really expensive! almost as much as buying seitan itself.

i just thought if i could make seitan it would save me a lot of money.

i'm a really poor vegetarian

and i find that the proteins are always the most costly (tofu, tempeh, beans etc)

just bought a soya milk maker though so now making my own tofu

My health food store sells vital wheat gluten (and that's saying something in Australia and even more for the area I live!!!) but they just label it Gluten Flour (then it says underneath-for baking). It's much easier. You can google it and get complicated with flavours but I just make it with the flour and the water. I then cook it in chicken or beef flavoured vegetable stock and marinate it before I eat it in meals. It's pretty cheap too, about $3 (AUD) for a big bag that makes about 8 or 9 meals with seitan in!

I only found flour for baking. Can you get this product in other forms?

Does any of you guys have the "Lean Bean Cuisine" cookbook? How would you rate it? Are there some simple recipes or are most of the dishes pretty complicated?

Thanks

Quinoa is a complete protein, with as higher protein content than any other grain. And it's delicious if you prepare it the right way (rinse several times and toast the grains before cooking).
