Hi everyone! I'm Klare. I manage to stumble on this sight when I was googling. Currently I am a vegetarian trying to become vegan, but being a freshman in college, I'm finding that it's difficult just trying to keep up my diet. Especially since there are onyl a handful of vegetarians on campus. Ah well, I can always use a few more non-meat eating friends.

How's the food on your campus?<br><br><br><br>
Mine's very cheesy. It tastes good, but it's very unhealthy, vegan-unfriendly, and tends to get monotonous. I'm lacto-ovo, but I can't remember the last time I ate a decent vegetable dish (I'm lying. There was actually a very good mushroom/pea pasta dish today, but that was unusual).

Well, if you get food after eight, you're stuck eating a grilled cheese. If not, then you have limp vegetables, bland pasta, overly msg 'international food'. The only thing that I can stand is the pasta bar, but you have to listen to the cook ask you everytime you get it why you're not getting any meat. Oh, not to mention these really awful vegan sandwiches (I have no idea how those ended up there) that are limp and soggy. Gross!<br><br><br><br>
I've resorted to stocking up on food when I go home (like dried beans, rice and what small about a veggies I can keep in the mini fridge). It's been holding up so far. The only good thing is that there's this place nearby called Egyptian Pizza that has tons of mouthwatering vegetarian pizzas.

Btw, I'm vegan and have been for 4+ years. A tip for you and trying to go vegan: explore Indian food. Many recipes are extremely inexpensive to make and easy, too. And boy, o boy is the food ever good good good!!!<br><br><br><br>
In fact, quite a few ethnic foods are vegan or can be quite easily. In fact, I'm of the <i>opinion</i> that being a vegan is easier when you eat mostly ethnic... rather than trying to veganize our "SAD" stuff. (Though, don't get me wrong, I still use american vegan recipes ALL the time, too.)<br><br><br><br>

Welcome! I understand the perils of residence food - I still live in a hall, and every night this week I have cooked for myself rather than risk the concept (now utterly abhorrent) of a baked potato and salad, or banana sandwich on hideous bread. Good luck with it all!
