Michael's pretty much correct - you don't absolutely NEED a cookbook at all.
However, through a lot of trial and error and wasted food, I have learned a few things about Internet recipes...
ANYONE can write down a list of ingredients and call it a recipe.
A few tips:
MAKE SURE you try recipes from actual cooks/cookbooks/TV shows/reputable websites etc.
OR choose recipes with a few personal notes from the person who wrote/posted it,
OR choose recipes with a rating system,
OR choose recipes that have several reviews/comments written by people who've actually TRIED the recipe...
Stay away from those that just look like they're cut-n-pasted from elsewhere...
Yes, even a few of the recipes here on our dear VeggieBoards have not ended up as wonderful as I had imagined they would (*gasp!! I know! The horror) though rest assured, most are MARVELOUS!
