Hi everyone. So glad I found this place. I went vegetarian for the past 40 days for fasting purposes, but I think I'm going to make it a lifestyle! It's just so much healthier, not only in what you cut out, but what you add in. Cheers to a long, healthy life!

There's something our church does called the "Daniel Fast" which is abstinence from meat and sweets for a given time. After trying it out, I really saw the physical benefits.

That's way cool! It's like lent, but not lent?

I think Lent is something that all (or most) Catholics practice at a specific time of the year. At my church, we don't have many organized corporate fasts where everybody does it at once. We are encouraged, though, to fast often as part of our spiritual life. Fasts can look like abstinence from meats and sweets, abstinence from everything except water and juice, or abstinence from anything whatsoever. There's no real formula to it. I just chose to give up meat because I found myself eating it a couple meals a day.
