Hello everyone

I'm brand spankin' new, just joined up last night.

A bit about me... I am 26, and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I work in an office during the week and I am a part time photographer (hopefully one day that'll change to full time!). I have been a vegetarian for almost a year now... for the first 9 months I lived interstate with my boyfriend and worked with a few vego's so I had plenty of people to chat to, and didn't find it difficult at all. We also lived alone so I had full control over the kitchen, and I became quite a good cook!

Now, we are back in our hometown, living with my boy's parents, and... well... This is where I feel kind of sick with shame, but I am working at a logistics company who specialises in refrigerated transport. One guess what that means...? Yep, about 98% of what they transport is MEAT. I don't see it, I am tucked away in a nice warm office doing data entry, but I also have to drive past two abattoirs to get there and then process paperwork with some very stomach-turning freight descriptions, with a bunch of country people who share recipes for lamb shanks and steak, and actually said to me "so... what DO you eat?" when I said I am a vegetarian. It's hard. I don't crave meat AT ALL, it makes me absolutely nauseous even thinking about it, and my boyfriend, although he eats meat occasionally, is so supportive of me (he's cooking me Quorn bolognese as I type this!)... but I am struggling a little... Mostly because I feel alone! My brother is vegetarian but I don't see him much, and my few vegetarian friends live on the other side of the city. Sometimes I feel like I am going to scream when people say dumb things about how meat production isn't cruel and how they are such super big animal lovers while chewing on a piece of ham... but I have no one to scream to!

So, here I am, on this forum! Hoping to chat to some people who "get it"... as well as being able to share delicious vego recipes and that sort of thing too

Hi Nadiosa. I am a Sandgroper from Perth.

VB is a great resource with loads of likeminded and helpful people.

There is also an Aussie/NZ forum further down the page that is not all that active but is getting there.

Cheers, CT

hi Nadiosa
I completely can understand you because Im the only veg in my family
and all of them -except my parent- cant get this
but now I stop talking about cruel things happened to animal in dairy factories
I only tell them that having milk from dairy or having meat make me sick and fat
i think talking about health and give proofs is what we need to stop people arguing about our diet.
