Hi everyone,

I have been scanning this board on and off for a while and I have finally decided to register and start to post.

I have been trying to be vegetarian for the last year or so and while it has generally been great I regularly get thoughts and feelings about returning to eating meat. I have given in a couple of times and had something small, e.g. burger or pork pie, but always regretted it afterwards. Unfortunately I do not know anyone else who is a vegetarian who I can talk to it about so I thought I would come here to chat to you guys about the trials and tribulations that I come across. Hope no one minds!

So have any of you guys ever had these feelings? How did you stop them coming back?

Paul

Probably the best way is to keep your kitchen stocked with meat alternatives, such as veggie burgers and veggie hot dogs, plus soy lunch "meats" for sandwiches.

Hi and welcome!

I think you will find being on these boards a great support for not eating meat. Everyone talks about really yummy veggie food all the time!

I have also found doing a lot of research on the health, environmental and ethical factors in eating meat helps me take meat out of the food category altogether, so it's just no longer an option to eat it.

Good luck!

You just need something yummy to replace the meat.

Paul, when I first went veg, I was like you - I'd slip up and eat some meat and then feel bad about it. I never felt bad doing it, just afterwards.

So when I became tempted to eat meat, I'd try to remember how I was going to feel in 20 minutes, or an hour, or the next day, and I'd act accordingly.

Worked like a charm, and after about a month or so, it was second nature!
