My husband and I have been married for 19 years. We always say "here, taste this" after making something. I have been veg*an since June. The other day he was making chicken salad and held the fork out for me to taste. I almost did! Fortunately, at the last minute I realized what I was about to do and stopped myself. I know I would have felt so bad.

If it's just a mistake that's fine, but I really hate it when people who KNOW I'm a vegetarian offer me meat anyway. Would you offer an orthodox Jew pork? I consider it a mockery.

When I was a kid, I was offered salami ('here, taste this') by someone who sincerely thought I was pitiful and missing out on the best things in life... Some people just don't really think of what they are doing, or understand what the veg*n choice is about. Mind you, this was in the seventies.

I was 15 when I decided to become a vegetarian - oh so long ago! My first day I actually ate a hot dog because - believe it or not - I forgot that I was a veggie! I laugh about it now because it taught me a good lesson about being aware of what you are eating but at the time I was so upset I cried and cried. I personally don't get offended when people offer me meat - I don't think anyone has ever done it to make me actually eat meat - I just think they want to share the nice meal they are having. Being a veggie is a lot more important to me than it is to others...
