A few weeks ago, I thought that I had the flu...just a bit achy.<br><br>
A couple of days later, I was VERY achy. Then that went away and I was only in pain when I would walk, or get in and out of bed...as long as I was still, I was okay.<br><br><br><br>
I saw my doctor and she took some blood. She thought it might be something called viral arthritis, something that would go away by itself. Just take it real easy, she said.<br><br><br><br>
The blood tests came back today and everything is fine, except she said that my liver counts are high. I don't know anything about liver counts and I don't know how high. She wants more blood tomorrow to do more tests and then she mentioned hepatitis as a possibility for the infection. She did not say A, B or C. I asked her if I should be worried and she said, "No...not yet."<br><br><br><br>
Well, I am worried, and not just about myself. I am very worried that I might pass it to one or more of my children, none of whom have not been vaccinated for Hepatitis.<br><br><br><br>
I am not in a high-risk category (at all) yet; I was horrified to learn tonight that 35% of people infected are in low risk groups.<br><br><br><br>
If you know anything helpful, please post. I really doubt I'll be doing much sleeping. Thank you.

I had a very similar thing last year(and extreme pain when i breathed in deeply...from my lungs pressing into my inflamed liver), but thankfully it turned out to just be a bad liver infection (which was fixed with some pills). They thought it was hepatitus. So hopefully it turns out this way for you too.<br><br>

We can get into it more when if and when you are diagnosed but if it makes you feel better I ve been married to my husband (has hep c) for 8 1/2 years. I get tested about once a year to make sure I dont have it , we have one son and one on the way. I think you need to use common sense- re: toothbrushes nail clippers etc... Please keep us posted. Liver counts could be high for a # of reasons dont worry<br><br>
Good luck!

I forgot to mention the only symptom that has remained...a numb, tingling sensation in my hands and feet, that gets worse when I sleep.<br><br><br><br>

I just thought of this. Did you take any Tylenol near the time they drew your blood? Tylenol is very hard on the liver and actually will cause liver damage with prolonged use. Use with alcohol can prove fatal. Tingling in the hands and feet make me think of something going on with your nervous system; not necessarily attributable to hepatitis. The nerves end in 2 places..the hands and the feet. That's where the power switches currents if you will. Typically if there's something going on with your nerves elsewhere you'll feel it in either your hands, feet, or both. Maybe you slightly injured or strained your back in some way?

MsRuthieB,<br><br><br><br>
I began taking Tylenol and aspirin (alternating) days before my blood was drawn the first time, and may have had some that morning. I don't know anyway that I could have injured my back, although I often experience minor lower back pain.<br><br><br><br>
I am wondering why my doctor is only looking in one direction (Hepatitis) for the cause. I read a lot about it last night and it is bad. I was told that I would have to wait 3 - 7 working days to know the results of my latest blood test (unfortunately).

Well there ya go. That Tylenol will elevate levels in your liver like crazy..especially if you've been using on and off for days. Tylenol actually has a very toxic effect on the liver and can cause permanant damage with prolonged use. There have been very extensive studies done. Reason I know? I have a weakened liver and was told to NEVER take Tylenol. I was given a bunch of literature and all I read was the dangers of Tylenol. I don't know that I'd worry too much about the Hepatitis (unless you are a previous junkie who shared needles or have been given blood during a medical procedure). Being that Hepatitis is the most common cause of elevated levels, you doc is probably looking there first to try and rule it out before looking elsewhere. Good luck to you.

My mother had the same thing a couple of weeks ago where she did normal blood tests and the the liver counts came back high. She was taking Tylenol quite frequently for her jaw pain. She is also asthmatic and the puffer she has has been recalled because it can elevate liver counts. Her doctor did an ultrasound to confirm things were okay and did Hepatitis testing and then suggested she use minimal amounts of Tylenol and change puffers. Bottom line: there are many different things it could be. Ask your doctor about any other meds you could be taking that may increase your liver levels.<br><br>
Good luck to you and keep us updated.

The doctor called last night and said my latest blood test showed a normal liver count. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)"> She doesn't think that I have Hepatitis, but is still searching for the cause to my illness.<br><br><br><br>
I really feel fine now, just a bit tingly in my hands and feet.<br><br><br><br>
Thanks for your concern.

Actually, they tested me for C. (Which there is no vaccination for). Now, my husband thinks the doctor scared me unnecessarily...<br><br><br><br>
Thanks for your kind words, everyone.
