I think I posted in the wrong thread earlier...oops.....

My boyfriend always cooks for me so I told him that I would cook for him tomorrow for Valentines. Now I cant think of what to make, and I have to shop today! I am a vegetarian and he is a big meat lover. I need something that either is a hearty veggitarian meal or something that I can add the meat last so that I don't have to put it in mine or I can substitutue some "fake meat". Pasta is my last resort I always cook that and kind of wanted something new. Anyone have any good ideas?? Help!!

Thanks

Since you're in Texas, I'll bet he'll love a really good chili. You can make one the usual way, but with TVP (textured vegetable protein) or Gimme Lean beef style instead of actual beef, and he won't even notice.

And if he gets heartburn from it...well it WILL be Valentine's Day.

Also maybe try bulgar (bulger?) in the chili. I've done that, & it's really tasty, and my hubby and my cousin (both omni) really liked it. Yummer!

I second the chilli. Perfect if you need to add some meat later, but with all the fab veggie meats, you hopefully won't have too!

vegetarian chili is real.

My bf and I are having Vegetable Pot Pie tomorrow night, but the meal was planned with no consideration about the holiday. He would never make me cook meat, he thinks it would be disrespectful to ask that of me (I agree).

Pasta with "fake" meat (or lentils, etc.) is yummy too.

The dessert is the important part.

Thai or Indian curries.

Chinese Stir-Fries.

Lebanese style meal, with things like baked kibbeh, fake ground meat or veggie sfihas, stuffed cabbage rolls, falafel, tabbouleh, stuffed zucchini, etc.

Chilli, Portobello fajitas, etc.

I agree that it seems somewhat disrespectful of someone to ask/expect a veg*n to cook meat for them. I ALSO agree that it's the dessert that's the important part. I'm going to make pancakes with chocolate and raspberries, syrup and whipped cream..... mmmm rrrrrr

why do you need to cook meat? my b/f enjoys meat but is willing to try veg meals because I am veg. try making a nice pasta dish with red sauce, or make a 5 cheese lasagne (unless you're vegan, i didn't actually catch that)..

Oh I didn't mean to sound like he is making me cook meat. I don't think he expects it either I just know he preferrs meat so I wanted to do something he would like. He cooks tofu and stuff for me all the time and he usually eats it with me. I just don't like meat so I don't eat it, I do not have a problem cooking it. He didn't even know I was going to cook for him until yesterday, and he didn't say anything about what I should cook.

My omni b/f and I are making a butternut squash risotto. It's a new recipe we've been wanting to try for awhile. Here's hoping it turns out well.
