Hi everyone...

I've been veg*n off and on for close to 3 years...I was vegan for close to a year, then went omni again for about 8 months, and have been vegetarian for a year. I'm a 22 year old female, live in Connecticut, USA, and am a mechanical engineer.

I am technically lacto-ovo vegetarian, I still allow myself eggs and dairy if they're already in a food. I'm trying to cut both out as much as possible - my goal is to cut out eggs entirely and only have dairy as part of an occasional treat (I love cheese and dislike every vegan "cheese" I've tried). This is complicated by the fact that my fiance is omni, as is my entire family.

I am also looking to lose weight...I let myself eat too much veg "junk" food (cheese pizza, etc.) over the last 5-6 months, and it has really gone right to my hips.

Anyways...here I am.

Good to meet you Grateful_Veggie! I am also 22 and am an ovo-lacto vegetarian... it is very hard to be around my omni family and not eat a little cheese now and then...

I haven't liked any of the fake cheeses I've tried either.. and I'm on the total opposite side of the country then you are! P

Anyways see you around.. and what do you do as a mechanical engineer exactly?

I was on the old Vegweb messageboards, but left for a while.

DirtDiva - Specifically, I design elevators...I work for a major manufacturer of elevators. It sounds boring, and it can be, but it sure pays the bills!

Hey Grateful_Veggie!

Elevators sound sexy! Don't get me wrong... I just like big machines.

I think our members stonecrest and scareyvegan are mechanical engineering students. I know that scarey is into cars a lot.

Anyway - enjoy it here, it's a bit bigger than VW. Check out the Veggie Patch for silly stuff!

Hi, Grateful_Veggie! The cheese is what always gets me, too. Vegan cheeses just don't compare at *all*. I'm sure you'll find that this place will help your resolve, though.

I spend my days in elevator R&D. Specifically, I work on both the driving mechanism that opens/closes the doors, as well as working in propulsion. I do mostly design and analysis work, although there is some testing involved.

In college my professional concentrations were solid mechanics and materials engineering (kind of like minors - I was one class short of a dual major in ME and materials engineering/metallurgy). My professional interests range from fuel cell technology to automotive engineering. I like the elevator business - I work for a stable company with a lot of interesting jobs to do and lots of room for future advancement.

Next summer, after I'm married and a bit more settled, I plan to start grad school. I'm planning on an engineering masters (in materials engineering) as well as a business degree (in operations management & production engineering).

LOL, Grateful Veggie--your last post was WAY over my head. My bf is a mechanical engineer and your last post sounds a lot like the kind of stuff he says when I ask him how his day was. I've learned to just nod and say "mmmm."
