Hi!
I'm relatively new to vegetarism, only a few months. I started out being vegetarian except for eating fish 1-2 times a week, then I eliminated the fish and then became vegan 4 days ago.
Going vegetarian in the beginning wasn't very difficult because I cut out red meat almost entirely about a year ago due to health reasons (nothing wrong just my own concerns), and was only eating chicken and fish. Now going to veganism is more difficult, since I like fish and some dairy products. It is also a lot more work for me, since I'm now going to have to learn how to cook (but it was about time anyway, I'm in my fourties!). Before I ate a lot of pre-packaged food and some fast food due to time constraints and laziness.
In addition, I'm also reading all the labels on all the household goods I buy, including personal care products (I didn't know there was so much animal product/animal testing in household goods).
I am a single parent of two teenagers, 16 and 17 (both omnis since I raised them that way). I'd like them to go veg, and maybe they will, but all I can do is give them the info and let them decide. I also have 2 dogs and 2 cats, (all carnis lol) but surprising to me I've found that they may be able to go veg! I ordered a book about it and some food the other night online, but I'll have to read the book and maybe consult with their vet before they go total veg. I won't risk their health.
Besides being veg, I work as a computer programmer and part time telephone public opinion taker ("research interviewer" as they call it). Quite boring jobs, really (hopefully no one from my full time job will see this since I don't let that on. It's such a miniscule chance that I'm going to be daring and take the risk lol).
Anyway, the jobs pay the bills for now. I'm also taking tae kwon do (currently I "high blue" belt, about half way to black, but I'm still not very good!), and I watch a lot of the home shopping channels, animal planet, discovery and discovery health, science channel and link tv. I don't have much time to hang out with friends since I'm either too busy or too tired, but I do go out every now and then, once a month or so. One of my friends is considering becoming a veg, but you won't see her here since she doesn't have a computer.
I hope this gives you some idea of who I am. Hopefully I didn't bore you too much and you're stll reading! You'll probably see me on and off every few weeks, depending on my work load and energy level. For this type of stuff I tend to be active for a few days up to a week or so, then get busy and disappear for a week or two, then reappear for a while. I'm hoping to get some good info/tips on veg*nism and to have some fun. Looks like an interesting forum.
