Hi everyone,

I just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself and share my story.

My name is Kassandra, I am twenty years old and two years ago I decided to become a vegetarian for ethical and medical reasons.

I have been struggling with medical conditions for the past five years. When I was fifteen, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and a neurological disorder known as Periventrical Heterotopia. Throughout those five years I have tried numerous medications to treat Fibromyalgia with no avail. When all my options ran out for western medicine and homeopathic medicine I thought I would be left to bare the pain. However, through my research I found suggestions of taking on a vegetarian diet because of the health advantages for people with Fibromyalgia.

My whole life I have been an animal lover and an activist for their well-being. I struggled with the idea of becoming a vegetarian for a few years because everyone I know including my family are big meat-eaters and I never had the confidence to go it alone. With my love for animals and my own health issues I knew that I could fight through the discrimination that I would endure and became a vegetarian overnight and have not looked back since.

Ever since becoming vegetarian the health issues Ive dealt with due to my Fibromyalgia have decreased and my overall health has aswell, and I am finally happy with myself because I am being true to myself .

I just recently came across this forum and wanted to join to get to know others who share my beliefs because like many others I have never had a support system and do not know any other vegetarians or vegans.

I look forward to enjoying my time on this forum.

My aunt suffered from it for many years. I had suggested a vegetarian diet to her when the medications simply weren't working... but, alas, she was a huge meat-eater and scoffed at the idea. The more I see people who have had symptom relief, the more I wish she had given it a go.

Thanks, yes it has been very helpful and I have told my story to many others who suffer from FMS. However, like your aUnt many of them are huge meat-eaters and vow never to stop. I am on my own road to becoming a vegan soon and am looking forward to other changes I may see in my health and also the ethical impact aswell
