The current heat wave is bad for everyone. Hundreds of people have died including a pregnant woman at a Red Sox ballgame. The difference between people and animals however is that people can use their heads to stay cool. Why oh why was a woman who was SEVEN months pregnant at a ballgame in this heat? Probably because she and her husband had tickets they didn't want to waste. But she paid for her loyal fanhood with her life. Fortunately the baby was saved so his dad can raise him to be a loyal Red Sox fan too. Although humans could make better choices than to get out in this horrible heat, animals that are confined to feed lots or hot barns without air conditioning cannot help themselves. Thousands of dairy cows have died and are dying in California. If it were not for human lust for animals and animal products these animals if in the wild could find shade and water themselves, but instead they are at the mercy of their humans owners. How ironic. Raising massive numbers of cattle contributes to global warming and they get to suffer for it. Not saying the cattle deserve it.

Global warming isn't one heatwave. It's a general warming trend. We had heatwaves before people started talking about global warming.

Yep. It's also a degree or so warming over time, milder winters, etc., not all kinds of heat all of a sudden. I can't convince my mom of that though. She watched a special on global warming a couple weeks ago, and now that's all she talks about. She insisted during our recent upper 90s, humid weather that "it's never been this bad before." Though we had heat like that when I was a kid, and back then she wouldn't so much as get the fans down from the attic until at least mid July. I think she just *thinks* it's hotter because the ac in her car doesn't work anymore, so she has to drive around without it all day. And she won't roll her windows down more than an inch because her hair will blow. So she's sitting in a closed, though moving, car all day wearing a dark blue uniform. I'm surprised she hasn't passed out yet.<br><br><br><br>
Anyway, back on topic. Anyone caught not taking proper measures with animals in their care--you know, the ones who have to wear the fur coat--should be forced to endure the same conditions.<br><br><br><br>

I was wondering about this summer's heat wave myself and if it was caused by global warming. I grew up in Texas and can remember some pretty hot summers during my childhood. I was just about to dismiss this as just another hot summer among many I have experienced, but right about then the NBC Nightly news came on and said that scientists were indeed connecting this summer's hear wave to global warming. They take the numbers from 100 or so years ago when they first began keeping statistics on weather and climate and add them to all the other records of highs and los since then from around the world and they have concluded that the earth is not only getting warmer but that the current heat wave is a part of that trend. Its not enough just to look at the statistics for your city with the highs and lows over the last 50 years on the Weather Channel website (which is what I did and found that it was actually hotter in the 1950's), but it must be compared with data from all over the world.
