i live with my parents and two younger brothers, all omnis. yeah we have fruit and veggies, but the kitchen is packed with crackers, chips, bread, basically LOTS of junk food. i plan out my meals every day, but sometimes i need to give in to snacking. i do have one little cupboard filled with stuff for me, right now it contains luna bars, kashi oatmeal, granola, whole wheat pasta, nonparishable things like that. im going on a big food shopping trip in 2 days to get my stuff for the upcoming week, and im sick of snacking on unhealty foods. i'm going to shaws and i believe that they have a large natural foods section. what are some healthy, preferably vegan (im thinking about making the transformation to it!), low calorie nonperishable snacks?

I you really want a non-perishable low-cal vegan snack, I say air-popped popcorn is the way to go. A jar of popcorn kernels stores for ages in the pantry. You don't need to invest in an air popper, either. You can do it right in the microwave. (I suggest using two staples to close the paper bag. Alton Brown, the god of all things kitchen, says it's OK.)

Popcorn Seasoning Suggestions

Apples also store pretty well and are a nutritious lo-cal snack.
